Would you loan your woodsplitter to your neighbor?

I loan my neighbors stuff, it doesn't bother me any. I think a few on here are just a "bit" materialistic! A splitter is fairly cheap and simple, would be pretty tough to really screw it up. Mine is just sitting in the weeds anyhow, use it once in a blue moon to split bit stuff that won't pass through the processors.

Loaned one neighbor a bunch of carpenter tools so he could build a shed... nail guns, levels, air compressor, chop saw, etc. A few months later he and his wife watched my place and took care of my dog for several weeks when I was out of state. Wouldn't even take $100, reminded me several times that I had loaned out all those tools.
The next year I borrowed his game camera to see what was getting in my chicken coop, and that fall I he helped me kill and butcher most of the big ducks and chickens and used his vaccum packer. Wouldn't even let me buy a roll of plastic for it, even though I did and set it out on his porch when he wasn't home, so he had to take it.

depends... on who. Same with renting out my splitter. Depends on who.

I am really not a big fan on loaning out equipment, but again it depends on who is involved.

my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and it is highly unlikely for him to borrow a splitter because he burns propane.
we help each other when we can but we follow both the same rules " we don't loan tools or equipment ".

Yea, I would bring over and help. He got a super split and have helped him with a couple times. I have run over with skidloader to help move wood. He has lent me a trailer to haul logs. I helped get a couple saws running for him. He has dropped off a couple loads of nice ash logs. Give and take, he is a good friend.

I'll loan it to the guy if he just has a small load every now and then, like for his fire pit, when I came out and he had 4 or 5 truckloads, and he's selling it for cash money I told him it'll cost him a truckload and he helps me load my truck. It works out, the splitter is built like a tank, not much a person can tear up on one. I wouldn't let him leave his yard with it,,

I let my neighbors borrow anything of mine. They know the stuff that I have and I know what they have. Quite often they'll call and ask if they can borrow something of mine when I'm at work and I tell them to go into the barn and grab it.

It goes the other way too. I've needed a piece of equipment that they have and they tell me to help myself anytime.


I figure that anything i have besides my wife and kids I'll loan out to friends, family and neighbors.

If it breaks, oh well, it can be fixed. I'm willing to help anyone who is in need.

I always just let people borrow what ever they need. I would hope if I was in a bind, they would do the same thing.
Did you neighbor know he was getting it in the round? If so I would still let him borrow it this year, but make sure he knew that it is not going to be an every year deal. He would need to find other alternatives for splitting in the feature. Or at least rent it out.

Just a month ago I lent my neighbor "retired 68yr old lineman" a chainsaw to take down a smallish pine tree in his back yard. I gave him the gas and bar oil so I knew it was being fueled and lubed up how I wanted it. I came home from work, and it was sitting on my workbench "where I told him to put it when he was done". It was all shinny and cleaned up. I through it in the vice to sharpen the chain like I always do before hanging it up. The second I looked at the teeth and rolled the chain on the bar, I was pissed. He used it to cut the damn stump out. Bar rail was full of dirt, and the teeth were tore up bad. I was not a happy camper that night to say the least, I told the wife that night, never again! I did not say a thing to him as it was not worth loosing a good neighbor over. The next day he knocks on my door and hands me a brand new Oregon chain, and a gift card for $30.

I have one neighbor I would loan mine to without question only because I know he will fix it if it breaks or replace it if he can't fix it. We loan stuff back and forth. Now my saw on the other hand doesn't get loaned out to anyone, it's *smeagle voice* "my precious"

If they can pass a common sense 101 questionnaire, I'd probably consider loaning my 20-ton dual split. I wouldn't give it two thoughts concerning the SS HD...a big ol' negative.

Damn, I need to quit being so dang nice. I swear once a month one of my friends borrows my truck. I get home from work and it's gone, look on workbench and there is usually a note, or sometimes a text message.

Problem is, they know my keys are always in the ignition and truck is parked in the garage. Garage is never locked so I guess it's my fault. Lol

Not sure why it'd be run low on oil? Oil isn't exactly a consumable.

Any case, I know of no neighbor or friend of mine that would borrow something and return it broken.
