I picked up a 038 super about a month ago and finally had a chance to really put it work last weekend. Cut about 5 pick-up loads with it. It has a 20" bar on it and it really cut well. I had some 25" cherry to cut and it did not slow down at all. I also had some 20" oak and again it didn't even slow down. I am impressed with this saw. I just bought a 25" bar for it.

Being that this is an older saw, does anyone know if it would benefit from a muffler mod??

Depends on the muffler that's on it.. The Super is Dual ported, the Magnum is TRIPLE ported!

Most likely closer to 4.5hp, the 038 Super is about 66/67cc.

I believe you are thinking of the Magnum........:greenchainsaw:

Well, I looked it up in my "secret Stihl files".

According to those, the 038AV is 62cc/4hp, Super 67cc/4.35hp, Mag 72.2cc/4.8hp, and Mag II 72.2cc/5.3hp.

Most other sourses (all I have seen, really) say 3.8kw and/or 5.2hp for the Mag II and MS380. The new MS381 is rated at 3.9kw, I believe.

Stopped at a yard sale on the way home from work today and left with a mint condition Stihl 038 Super Pro with a 24" bar.I've never owned a Stihl so I'm hoping someone can tell me if this saw can pull a 24 incher.Would also like to know what size and horse power it might be. Any replies and comments would be welcome. The saw cost me a hundred bucks, hope it wasn't wasted. Thanks, Big Dan.
