Wow that must have been a big fire!! sorry to hear of your misfortune.

It got pretty hot, lots of combustible stuff in there. Everything aluminum is melted into a puddle, and most everything steel is deformed. You can see in the pics that the trees behind the building went up, too, and for awhile there we thought we were going to lose a lot more than just the shop.

Sorry to hear that. That's a real setback to all your projects, not just the dyno. Take care.
 
A tad late to the party but i thought it might be useful to someone using this thread for inspiration.

To create analogue tachometer, use an apropriately geared analogue automotive speedo running off the end of the "brake" shaft. Remark the face to match the engine rpms as taken from an electronic tach. Done.

Or set up suitable step up/down gearing so 1000 engine rpm = 10 mph/kph on a 150 mph/kph speedo... easy when you say it fast.
You could probably use Halda Tripmaster gears for this (or better yet send your old Halda gears to me!)
