Dig around in the archives - plenty of pictures.

The 044 flywheel fits on a long crank taper. It's basically "stretched" over the crank shaft by the torque on the nut. Sticked your prying screwdriver under the flywheel and rotating it a 1/4 between prys (your "method") achieves nothing unless you have loose flywheel to start with. What in the world are you prying against anyhow?

I'm sure if you pry or bash it enough, you'll get it off, but at what cost?

If your careful enough nothing,if i was to tear down 20 saws a day then i would invest in a flywheel puller but my method has worked for me since i was 12.

been fun

Well its been fun but i got better things to do than argue with a bunch of stupid stihl service techs and people who go to them for the crap saws they sell neg me all you want i don't care.

Just use a large screwdriver to pull the fly wheel. You have to lift it a little at a time. After you lift a little turn it about an quarter of a turn repeat until the flywheel is off.

Kid, you'd never touch anything mechanical that I own. Your arguing to defend this incredibly idiotic method speaks volumes about your mechanical "skills."

i bet you don't know jack about fixing things and you aren't perfect like you claim.I don't need your business as i got plenty of my own.

I've rarely taken my stuff to a mechanic. $200 worth of tools and a $15 Haynes manual and you can fix about anything. Regardless, my mechanical knowledge or lack thereof is not at issue here. What is at issue is your foolish arguments for a cooked-up idiotic method that even a retarded monkey would be against, while at the same time showing arrogant disregard for someone who has a lifetime of experience working on this shyt, even when you admit you've never worked on the saw in question!

Beautiful!!!

I missed the post where you stated you did indeed have a Walbro HD

It appears you have more than one problem and lake was correct on the HD10

Your check valve is hanging open which is why the high speed is set so lean (as you identified when you blew through it and then were able to suck back through the check valve it should not allow suction)

The low speed issue is most likely as someone else pointed out a restriction or leak in the impulse circuit.

I missed a lot of information trying to ignore the battling going on

I caught the "mishmash of parts" and wondered if it had a donor carb or a real early (some of the first 44s I ever worked on here east coast) which had Walbro WS carbs

Hey lake......ask Stihl who the first guys were that pointed out to them that their shielded bearings would not work and that they were causing failures
which do not have a replaceable jet.

And the HD 17s out here usually have .68 jets standard same as on the HD 16s on the 046s with the hi altitude speced as .66

chest waders?????

Does anybody have any chest waders cause sh#t is getting deep.

don't forget the disinfectant for New Guy,,,seriously,,,, This post is for you New Guy

this is a good place to learn how to fix small engines correctly,,,,,, and most people who come here do so to help others,,,,,and have a little fun,,,,and learn,,,,nobody here is trying to get over on anybody or prove saw tech superiority,,,,,,besides just because a person has been doing things and getting by is fine but learning to do things correctly is ALWAYS a good thing,,, its never too late to learn,,,,I've learned abunch just from reading some of the great threads on here in the last year, and i'm old enough to be your Pop,,,,,, Also brand bashing especially on a continual basis is generally unacceptable and quite distasteful,,,sure we all slip with a wise crack eveynow and again but it seems that every time you post there is some confrontation with you trying to prove yourself and you consider us a bunch of knuckle dragging idiots,,, I assure you we mean no Ill will toward you but your continued provocation will ultimately be met with resistance,,, I would hope you would realize that not only are you doing an injustice to all here on the board, but worst of all you dishonor yourself and your parents,,,because I would sure hope and think they raised you better....

Do us all a favor and chill,,,,Good luck with your Huskies and your aspirations for a couple of bigger saws,,, a 372 and a 3120 ehhh??? I would be willing to bet if and when you get your new 372 or 3120 and you've spent your hard earned cash to buy them and for some reason if you had to work on them and you broke your crank or trashed your fly wheel taking shortcuts,,,,you would probably be pretty mad or swollen up @ yourself?????

Those saws you want are really Great saws,,, BTW I have a Husky 365 special that will wear a 372 EHP cylinder as soon as it needs a topend job done maybe sooner!!!!

It Lives!!!!

The HD-17 is on and.....IT LIVES. Waaaaahhh Hooooo

Fired right up and when it came to idle it was like music to my ears. Damn smooth idle. Sorry, for the late response but I was compelled to go cut stuff with it.

I'm not going to dork with this saw anymore, I'll leave the limiter caps in place. Unless I can't tune rich enough. Don't think I'll get a DP cover for it as it has the large hole muffler on it. Ok, I'm babbling...Here she be:

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who contributed to the thread. I really appreciate it. If you are in my neck of the woods I owe you beers.

Congratulations on the saw. Glad to hear it's running good for you.

Do you have a HD filter system on it? I just fitted mine on it today and the air cover sits about 1/2 inch off the air filter base that it mounts too. Anyone else know if it's supposed to do this or if there is something wrong?

Evan
