Dents in the bearing races from the balls is not a good thing.. It will work on the FAT taper cranks like a 200T (similar to how you are supposed to do it, but with the right strike tool in the center), but on the rest it's just plain hard on the crank and bearings, and on some you've never get it off without breaking something, or worse, cracking the flywheel.

It ain't my fault you IDIOTS can't do it with a screwdriver or small pry bar,and by the way the local stihl dealer is a buddy of mine and he says there is no harm in it if you do it carefgully.

Then.. your stihl dealer is also an idiot, and more so as the right tool cost him less then $7.

You've obviously never looked at how an 044 flywheel is mounted.

I wont argue that point,,,,,

and I would not do it on one of mine,,, unless the bearings were already toast and I just needed the flywheel,,,,,:monkey: :monkey:
The only time I have ever done it was when instructed to by the owner (I think You should be able to relate to that!!!),,,in fact we have every puller except one,,,That happens to fit the most unloved series of saws on this site,,,,,,:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

I never broke a crank seal or a bearing doing it and never will i don't put the screwdriver in that far and i suppose you are gonna tell me you can't remove a clutch with out a clutch tool and a piston stop?I question your knowledge as a mechanic sir.

Awwwwwwww how cute you think everything the local saw shop and Andy tells you is gospel.

sure you can if you use an impact,,,,,

and then you run the risk of breakng the crankshaft,,,,, Ive never broken one but I got a great 066 parts saw out of one that was broken using an impact to remove a clutch.... Assembly,,,,

and as far as you questioning Lakesides knowledge as a mechanic,,,,,,

You couldn't begin to carry his tool bag....

Yeah you can remove it without a clutch tool. You have to have a piston stop or something jammed into the crankshaft to keep it from rotating. What do you think the reason that a hex is machined into the clutch hub? Put a socket on it with a big breaker bar and get to pushing. I put a 5 foot piece of conduit on the breaker bar and worked like a charm. But your removing the flywheel without a puller is idiotic. Andy's given me quite a bit of help and hasn't steered me wrong yet.

He ain't steered anyone wrong here yet...............BTW how's that trailer flywheel coming???

hahahahahaha the only thing close to a trailer that has a flywheel is an r.v.

It figures...............if you would have stood up...that comment I made would have knocked you on your arse.............stupid is as stupid does!!!

There is more than one way to tear down a saw the right way and the way the guys who make fifty bucks an hour do it.

They don't make 50 an hour. You might pay 50 an hour but they definitely don't get 50 an hour. Theres definitely more than one way to do things also. If you don't like the way they do it then wrench on your own saws.
