Been a bit flat out the last week cutting down for firewood sugar and spotted gum so the farmer can replace the fence.Must be about a 100 ton (on both sides of the fence) on the ground but as you can see its a bit wet to get it out.Have mostly been using the 460 and the 660 on the bigger stumps,used between 5 to 6 liters of fuel per day.

Hard muddy work there S441. Still very glad to see rain, this time last year local footy clubs could not play as grounds too hard.
Macs ok to split but Sugars a PITA hope you got a tuff axe n strong back lad. Strewth 5 - 6 litre a day 66 can suck it down but that's hard workin.

Er chopper its winter down here 12c n wet that's about 54f for your mob.

nice job mate, i done a few of them now there always good fun, only 5-6l of fuel a day mate, id consider going to a stihl if they are that economical, a hard out day on the 385 im doing 3 combi cans full in a day
 
12 c is good working weather. Also nice to fire up the Harley for cruises.
 
Nice pictures Sman441. It seems that you had lots of fun. Any picture of the "before" ?

Since you are in the Winter, why didn't you drag the trees with a tractor to higher ground and then cut them there?

Lots of rain all over this winter, that standing water looks like everywhere around here.
Our poor little river has been up and down like a yo-yo lately, I feel for everyone with electric fences across it and the creeks, every couple of days they need to restring the crossings.

Up here in NSW we all reckon it's the wettest winter for 10 years and no ones complaining, (other than fixing fence crossings :laugh: ) it's shaping up to be a brilliant spring :D

Yeah, it has been really wet in VIC - we had an excavator sink in the back yard the other day... mud up to the cab.


Oh and you have 460 posts!! Nice ;)
 
There saying the same around this are as well about a good winter rain for a change,the only farmers complaining are the one with crops under water.I have got more to do but cant get near it with the ute,maybe i will load up the quod bike to get there.Any way have a rest for a few days and do some saw maintenance and chain sharpening.

Ya can do that but the problem is the wood gets covered in dirt and mud and my chains don't like that.
 
I was kind of wondering about chain life in that type wood, I keep reading about some of the stuff you guys cut. I’m sure the dirt and mud doesn’t help either.

I always buck em into firewood on the spot. Much easier I've found than trying to drag trees all over the place and makin a mess of the land and the wood.

Chain life in this green wood is very good,i use RSC Stihl or A3LM Carlton Magna Chisel,two tanks of fuel per touch up with the file.

Funny you say that,i have noticed that the 460 uses heaps more fuel than the 441,but you bet a brake more often so its not all bad.
