Stopped into the shop the other day. One of their customers has a 880 with both a 48" bar and a 36" bar. He was looking to trade it in on a 660. I guess they didn't come to an agreement and they told me about the saw. They sold it to him about three years again and said it's in good shape. What might it be worth?

Around here an 880 in excellent used shape with bars and chains would fetch $1000.00+. The dealers would not however give much more than $500 to $600 for it on trade. They certainly would not even up on a 660. Most seem to feel that 880s are hard to sell. An 880 that has been hard used and looks it would go for $500.00 plus.

Private party sales are all over the chart. EBay has ruined the large Stihl market as people on Ebay seem to be willing to spend at least $350.00 on blown up, not complete, caught on fire, found in the river and assemble from garbage saws.

Ask the person what they want for it. What it is worth is up to you and/or your wife. There have been a couple floating around they central Ohio area lately. Definitely run it and flip it around on its sides. Also if it is warm when you get there I would walk away unless it was dirt cheap.

right on! A new 880 should be around 1600.00, used alot less.

An 880 would be worth a bunch to someone who needs one, but not to many folks actually need one unless they are milling or just like to pull it out of the garage at a neighborhood cookout for the WOW factor. If you are cutting trees that require it daily, or even once a week, then go for it. New it's about 1500.00, used the prices are all over depending on how beat up it is. It is probably not a saw I would risk on ebay with out a reserve. Before investing the $$$ in on I would ask why do I need it?

That is a very good deal... Assuming good condition I can sell the 880 for $1000- $1100 any day... and that's without the 48 inch bar.

Whats that saying, I'd been on that like stink on ****. :taped:
Then sent it along with your 361 for the little ride.

I struggle with the urge to buy an 880 or 3120 although so far I've not come across wood that my 42 inch bar couldn't reach half way through.

So I don't need one, but the struggle continues. Even though when I heft them they seem like the size of small outboard motors.

So far I've stayed clean, but like all addicts relapse is only a saw away...
