Well shoot Thall, you're the ace mechainic, I thought you'd help us all out and tell us. I won't go to work for Husky--I like to work for companies that have more challenging competition.

Wow Tom, I was shooting at Ben all morning long, but all I had was a popgun.
You sent an ICBM in his direction and not a word since...

I usually try to stay out of the fray when ole benny starts up (see ajlogger's sig) but just can't seem to talk myself into sit'n this one out.

Of the 50cc pro saws the 260 has the least bang for your buck. The 5100 and 346 best it in everyway.

Really in "every" way?????

In what way is the 260 superior?

Well lets see, sure the 346 has a faster chain speed but where’s the torque??? Chain speed means nothing to the "one saw" owner who can't fell and buck a 20 inch tree to heat his house. (I know what your thinking, nobody likes over bucking and double felling cuts and a lot of people aren’t comfortable with it)

Yup the 5100 has more HP/torque but at the expense of extra weight. Not a big deal when your holding them at the dealership (provided you can find one) but a major consideration for someone who will use the saw for 8 to 10 hours a day.

It would appear that all three saws have their place and to say one is better than the other would depend on the user and intended purpose now wouldn't it.

I stand by my statement.

As we all knew you would

Of course you do Ben, you always stand by your statements and as usual they don't mean SQUAT,LOL

Couldn't have said it better myself.

The original question was how the 260 is ranked amongst its peers.

And the answer would be in its rightful place at the top.

#1 in sales
#1 in reliability
#1 in longevity
#1 in availability
#1 in dealer support
#1 in customer satisfaction
#1 in customer loyalty

Of the 50cc pro saws the 260 has the least bang for your buck.

Bang for your buck?? You let me know how those huskys and dolmars are doing in 15 to 20 years and we'll have this discussion again then.

Ok, #1 in sales is correct. But, reliability has not been proven greater.

Claiming greater longevity is akin to claiming an 80 year old man has greater longevity than a 30 year one. While this may be true, it has nothing to do with models produced at the same time.

Availability and dealer support depends on the local dealers pertinent to your area, and is therefore questionable.

Customer satisfaction and loyalty, according to who or what survey?

Dead last, how do you figure. It outsells both the 346 and 5100 combined. Its the only one of the three that has a steller reputation for lasting 15 years or more under use, neither the 346 or 5100 have done so that I know of yet. So let me
Sales dont figure into comparitive rankings. I could care less how many units Stihl sales.
And the idea that a 026 that ran daily will last 15 years is laughable. The saws you see that are still going after that amount of time simply havent been run that much. A sawyer in my neck of the woods gets not around a year out of his saws.
BTW the 346 might have a steller reputation over fifteen years if it where not for the fact that Husky updates their saws much more frequantly. That why the consumer isnt running antiques like the 260.
And one more thing. As you know I had a 260 and it served me fairly well once I pitched the fixed jet carb and save a few ignition modules, but when it comes to any parameter having to do with perfromance the 346 flat out spanks it. I also might add that I purchased my 346 form a LOCAL dealer for around $100 less than the 260 cost.

You say Poulan like it is a bad thing.
Could you tell me how many Poulan's have been sold over the years?

I too have to side with Ben. I've run 026's....and never liked them that much. Anti vib too soft, filtration relatively poor, spring on master control lever easily messed up.

346 is smoother, more streamlined shape, faster cutting. (according to 95% of those that have run comparisons.) Personally, I haven't had both saws at the same time, and my 346's have always been modded.
Longevity is at least as good.

As far as other 3 cube saws, I feel that my Shindaiwa 488 is a good saw as well. Very well built, and the lightest of the bunch. A tad less real world power, most say...mine is also woods modded, and lags the 346.

I also have a Solo 651, modded as well. It's power is also lagging a bit, and I would rank the 026/260 ahead of it.

Best of the bunch, in build quality and power, is the 5100S Dolmar. Have heard of nearly zero problems with it, a relatively new design. But Dolmar has an 80 year solid history of building great saws. Only drawbacks are its weight, distribution, and dealer network.

That said, if a 260/026 fell into my lap, I'd surely run it ...but not in stock form.

Husky 36/41 have part's from Sweden, but is "Made in USA"

The Huskys and Dolmars will be here in 15 to 20 years also, At least the ones that are not used on a daily bases, Same goes for the Ms260.
Maybe I don't know what you are getting at.
