Only reason i could think that it would glow is an extreme lean condition. It was an aftermarket dual port muffler, and i put on the oem one after.
The a/m muffler cover won't matter, I ran one on a 461 without any issues. Did the piston look scored when you swapped out the mufflers? Mufflers don't get that hot without something else being f-ed up. @Bweighmaster They can't verify your age, hence the "legalities" comment. However, when I went to sign up they wouldn't let you join unless you were 18 (or at least said you were 18).

No, piston looked brand new still.

Anybody can , and will lie ... Happens every second ......

Spark color is defined by elements in the air ..... you can't tell by color .....
Hold the plug and put one finger, same hand on cylinder, pull the recoil. If it feels like a good shock spark is good.

An ignition tester has a big gap for a reason. To test out put to upper limits. That is what is needed for good fire in the cylinder. Grab a good plug and gap it WAY out. It should still spark. Then you know the coil is capable of sustaining spark.
Old time farmers did that with 6V point ignition tractors. Set a plug gap to 1/4"/0.25". Get a spark it's OK

A 1940s 6V tractor ignition will jump that gap.

By the way, my 1940 9N Ford, rotary cut ~5 acres in just a couple hours yesterday. It's simple distributor, befuddles today's "mechanics". You can set timing/points with: 0.015" feeler, a straight edge, and a rolling paper (substitute for test light or ohm meter).

This PROCEDURE is "INCORRECT" Make sure spark plug is removed from cylinder, then hold the spark plug whilst touching cylinder with "WETTED" pinky finger , Have a friend hold the saw firmly to bench, tell your friend to pull recoil rope as you Give your friend something to be P!!ssed at you for. Need Pic or video posted of results. Disclaimers apply

Or you could buy a good spark tester . The preffered way .....

Se the low at 1/4 out, and high at 3/4 out. Im not sure where to put the idle.

Your low circuit might just be starved a little for fuel with those settings.
High might be a little lean as well, but it has to run to do any real damage.

Ok, well it will consistently start and run now. I notice when i run it, it will like jerk itself, almost out of my hands, then it will rev up and sound like a real saw, then after a while it comes back down and sounds bad.
