i know the standard poulan 2t oil is the same according to husqvarna as there regular oil as i was told over the phone.

Yea that was brought up in a thread on this site before also. In my area that was the only full synthetic you could buy. The Stihl shop used to carry the silver bottles but they weren't selling so they quit stocking them. Sometimes one of the motorcycle shops would have a close out on some performance 2T and you could get odd ball quarts at a decent price. I've run Motul Maxima, Silkolene,

Like I said above though, the cycle products usually don't have the blue coloring added. I'm not paranoid about brands of oil, but I am paranoid about whether or not there is mix in the can at all. I get in a hurry, and I wouldn't want o grab the wrong stuff because its not blue. I just stick with whats readily available and that's the 5 gallon mix bottles from Baileys. And only synthetics.

The color of oil (or as a result: colored fuel) does not tell me much.
After purchasing fresh fuel I directly add oil (40/1).

I prefer the highest quality (API-TC), the lack of dye does not matter to me.

yeah before i switched to lucas i ran echo red armor and it was great i can't afford it now because the dealer jacked the price so high
this is what 2 yrs of mowing with my 2 stroke mixed at 50:1 on red armor looked like , of course it looked fine.

red armor has a dark red dye in it and has a sweet soapy smell to it. but it is likely it has a ester base to it and has a good bit of detergents in that.
API TC is hard to find here but i know recently stihl ultra now says jaso fb api TC+

My brother and I have been using the Opti-2 oil in our 2-cycle equipment for over 10 yrs. now. We each have about 4 or 5 saws of different brands, a couple tillers and string trimmers. We are not pros or loggers and cut wood to feed an owb, add on furnace and a freestanding wood stove.
When we starting using Opti neither of us payed any attention to mix rates and weren't into saws and all the technical info that we now enjoy and are interested in. We used it at their reccomended rates and honestly never had any issues and are still running a lot of the same saws and equipment today.
In the last several years (after finding this site) and becoming more interested in saws as toys and not just tools, we both were amazed to learn that we had been running this oil at 70:1 ratios. We have done a couple of muffler mods on our saws and were glad to see a nice sheen and coating of oil on cylinders and pistons when inspecting them, also no noticeable wear on these same parts.
Disclosure: we are both now using Opti-2 at a 50:1 ratio by measuring with a ratio-rite jug. We think it is good stuff and have no reason to change...it has done its job.

Well as to the burning speed and other characteristics of higher octane:
You guys that still have the opportunity to go look for a nice fresh and tasty source of venison,
and bird hunting.
Will be likely be quick to take the idea of "leading the target", specific projectile speeds
and then make the analogy to how all types of fuel have a burn rate and thus how spark timing may need
to lead the target of ideal crank angle for power transfer.

we've got plenty more questions to follow on that little thought.
but I need to see about this swollen leg matter, for now.

have a good brisk day and hope ya stay warm folks!

They claim it is compatible and works well with ethanol and that it has a 24 month fuel stabilizer. Maybe just manufacturers claims, but I havent had any ethanol fuel related problems while using it. We cant find much of any fuels without the corn, so we are stuck using it.

Wow!!!! A double whammy!!!! A oil/octane combo thread!!!!! Should be some real bloodletting here!!!!!!!

So Lucas has slinked into favor these says????? What happened to Amsoil??? Klotz???? I stihl go back into our house safe and make sure that my Slick 50 stock certificates are still fine, they will shine again!!!!!!

I'd be cashing in those stocks Bill. Slick50 is only good for bar lube.

Since you mention a standard rating, API-TC is pretty much a lowest common denominator rating for a 2 stroke oil suitable for air-cooled engines. "Highest quality" is more in line with the JASO FD rating/ISO L-EDG classification, where a JASO FD rated oil has been tested and certified as compliant by the engine oil standards panel associated with JASO. Statements on the label like "Meets and exceeds JASO FD and ISO L-EDG" are by themselves not in itself certification, but should be considered as an affirmation by the manufacturer/blender that it meets the standard.

A JASO-rated oil will typically have a square box with the designation of the rating (FB, FC, FD, MA, MX, and so on) and its JASO certification registration number somewhere on the container, like this:
