I would go with the 372 it's smooth and powerful. I run one with a 28" bar and she just pulls the chips. I also use the powerhead to run my lewis winch.:greenchainsaw:

i think you know you want to pic the 372. it would not be my choice in saw if i was going to spend 800 bucks but it sounds like it might be the choice for you.

so here ill make it easy and say the 372 is the best saw for you :greenchainsaw:

Thanks Evan! Two of your comments: the vibes are different but the vibes on the 460 are no big deal

it would not be my choice if i was going to spend $800

but you're right in i think you know you want to pic the 372

BUT, I'd be furious if I bogged that 372 when I buried it.

So, they're wiiling to do 775 on the 372 and 845 on the 460. They said I could use either for a couple of weeks and trade if I were not satisfied. I think I'll ask them to set them both up and see if I can feel the vibration difference on the stuff they have in the shop.

Your thoughts are very helpful.

i have not run the 460. just my 44s and 440

Just out of curiosity, do you recognize what I said about the weight in the hands on the Stihls? My sense of the 266 was that the balance made it feel like you were handling what a two handed sword might feel like where the Stihl's seem like that weight is back more in the hands.

Yes I recognize what you said. :)

But I'd still reccomend that one takes their pick from the 372 or 441 and leave the 460 out of it. I'm not necessarily suggesting it to you, but that's what I'd suggest to most people. The 372 and 441 are much newer with "better" features that most want. It doesn't make the 460 inferior, as I said, among the 3 choices I'll take the 460. But as the 460 is a bit more "primative" it's probably not going to be looked at as well as the 441 and 372 (reguardless of weight).

If it were me, I'd go for the 460 with no question about it. But realistically, you can't go wrong with any of the three. They're ALL badass.

Having owned a 460, I will say that the vibes are pretty bad for a modern saw. I found that while they weren't real rough, but that the rubber mounts leave a sort of consistent smooth buzzing that really gets to my hands after a few hours.

Between that and the air filtration, especially if you have a 2186 jonsy you can use for the bigger stuff, I'd go for a 372xp.
