I've finally had a little time to work on my 395xp rebuild and after installing the seals I noticed that they seem to have puckered out after being pressed on the crankshaft. It looks odd the way they are right now. Here are a couple of pictures. What do you guys think?

Can't really see clearly, not that I'm the foremost expert. I did do seals in my 394 but from the pic, I wouldn't advise. Sorry.

If you zoom in on the pic you can see where the seal seemingly protrudes outward with the bearing surface of the crank. Which leads me to fear that the spring on the backside could have came off.

Though I must add that if it doesn't jump off the page to you brad (I know you've replaced seals dozens upon dozens of times) that perhaps it's not as unusual as it seemed to me.

I have seen this Saw first hand. The seal does infact protrude from both sides. Almost like it's supposed to be that way. Would using a press to install the seals cause them to pucker.

I have had experience with having trouble getting them over the lip of the crank, but the worst is the clamshell stihl saws with the groove for the eclip that the oiler worm gear rides on. Impossible to work it slowly over it. I used electrical tape in the past but it's really too thick.
