I'm curious if anyone has cut enough wood with the 441 to notice how the new filtration system works. Dirty air through cooling fins/cleaner air to filter. It seems like the fins would catch a lot of junk? Seems like this system would help lenghthen the time for air filter maintenance though.

That's not necessarily true.. I bet 30% of the saws I get in the store have either lost the summer/winter flap, or it's set wrong (usually open). For Stihls, it's only a small amount of air to supress carb icing. It's supposed to be open less then 50F, but most don't bother.

Of course, if you are tuning to the edge of madness, that's another problem...

Flywheel spinning fast enough not to catch any debris so far and yes the filter goes a long way between service intervals.

Not really, they just improved on an older technology and made it better.:givebeer:

I'm a mere employee.

Borrowed... or stole...or "improved" - like most of the chainsaws innovations for decades. Few are ever paid for.

Did you say Bought!
Again something they could not do on their own.
I guess that is why they will always follow the leader.
But you get what you pay for when you buy a Poulan, oops, I meant to say Husky, er, Poulan? I'm so confused on that subject.:deadhorse:

I may have missed this in past threads...
Has Stihl been running the 441 motor design in any of its equipment 1 year or longer?

Maybe over there, but pull-ons arent made in sweden but european huskies are...

Much agreement, this topic has probably been discussed more here than at the stihl factory in Germany. :bang: But since I am here I would vote for the 441 over the 440, better anti-vibe and quicker response in the throttle. As for dressing it with a 24" bar that is a whole different 100 page thread. ;) Mine wears a 20" bar and is very happy.

I've noticed the quicker throttle response too. I've got some other questions/issues that could use some resolve thouh too. I notice in my area (western NC) the customer preference tends to be towards the largest bars that can be run on a particular saw. We have very very few ppl running 20" on 440/441 setups. Lucky or unlucky for me I don't saw all that often but I prefer a slightly smaller bar on saws ie 20" on 440/441, 18" on 357xp, etc... yet we get a lot of calls asking about putting 32" bars on 044/440/441 and 372/575 saws. And for one last comment to whomever asked about the 441 motor design, they first used that design set up on the TS700 and 800 cut off saws, which if i remember right came out in 05? correct me if i'm wrong please :)

The TS700/800 use stratocharged technology, but it's reed driven and not piston ported. The 441 engine is entirely different and was released in July 06. It has been in test in many locations for 6-8 months before that.

Almost all of our 441 bar lengths are 28 and 32.
