Something HAS to be wrong with that saw. I'm cutting a lot of white oak right now, 6 months to a year dead. What I cut today was 17" to 28" Katrina wood (6 months dead) but last month I bucked a 36" white oak that had been down a year. No rot in any of it. My 460 has not bogged down even once.

I'm running the 3/8 RS on a 28" bar. I do have the dual port exhaust cover. Ive got one piece of the 36" white oak out there I have not split yet, I'ld send a pick but it's dark out there right now.

I bought my saw new a few weeks after Katrina. I was a little disappointed in it the first time I cranked it up. But after I put the dual port exhaust on it and ran a few tanks a fuel through it, it really woke up. Now my only disappointment is I can't find a big enough or hard enough piece of wood to really challenge it.

That's a pretty dangerous looking tree to fell. Did you know it was that unstable inside?

Nope, didn't know for sure until my face cut. The cedar next to it was smaller, but was falling prey to ants, so we figured this one may be as well, but didn't know for sure. I guess it was.

woojr,

Listen to those who state that perhaps a dual port muffler and re-tune may help. I too, run a stock MS-460 and I am not blown-away by its power. It runs well for sure, but has what seems to be the average power of a saw that is 4.7 cu. in. It does cut fast and it is incredibly smooth. All in all, I love the saw, but I am sure that when I open-up the exhaust and increase the fuel and air intake, I will see a significant increase in apparent horsepower. Again, I am not disappointed with what it exhibits now, but an increase would be welcomed.

well first I will be looking for a new dual port muffler. does anyone know if the carb adjustment will allow enought richening to accomodate the dual port? or is there more to do than open it up a little... and I suppose I should get a bigger air filter? woojr

You'll likely have to pull the limiter caps to make sufficient adjustment. There's TONS of threads on that topic for you to read, explaining how to properly do that. And no, you won't need another air filter. Just keep the one you have clean.
