In my search of area Stihl dealer's here in central Illinois I came across a shop that said they no longer carry 660's because they literally "blew up right out of the box." The owner said he though it was due to the "close tolerances." The shop only carries 650's. Any seizers(sic) out there

Haven't heard of any. I see a lot of new 660s come to the woods every year and I don't remember anyone having that kind of trouble.
Maybe the dealer just wants to move a few 650s and maybe he just doesn't know what he's talking about. Same old story...theres "dealers" and theres "saw shops" and theres a world of difference between the two.

Shop owner was probably just a dummy and actually ordered a bunch of 650s thinking they'd be a popular saw, now he can't sell them because everybody wants a 660, so he took away the alternative by saying he won't carry them.

Sounds like someone got a good deal on a bulk buy and his story smells of BS imo.

Yeah, come to think of it, most of the saw shops I've been into say they won't stock 650s because they don't move. Never the other way around, though.

PM me the name of the shop ..I'd like to call them and ask them if they have any 660's...

Yep-BS. If you think about it though, such a story wouldn't exactly inspire confidence in a prospective buyer("I only carry the ones that don't blow up"). Can you say:looser:?

Ulterior motive IMO. Anyone want to venture a guess if there is any saw more thoroughly tested over time than the 066/660?

Straight gas?

Soooooo Ultra, how many 066/660's do you have? And how many have had a problem, much less seized up?
I figure the man that owns twenty of the things might know a bit about them:hmm3grin2orange:

So Thall and Lakeside, How many 660's you all seen in the return bin?
or anyone working at the stihl dealers for that matter.

I have lots of Questions for this dealer....:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

If hes having great luck with the 650's and bad with the 660's maybe I need to start collecting 650's instead...

.

You should get him to send you all his crap 660s!:D

To some several thousand units later I've yet to pull a Stihl out the box and see it let go, or as some would say blow up. Only sold 4 big 660's last year if I recall correctly and all I hear from those that bought them is "awesome saw".

I think this shop the man is talking about is wanting to be rid of some 650's and I got bad news for that shop, tant gonna happen no time soon. We don't stock the 650 at all because we have no demand for it what so ever. I always felt they, Stihl, should have built a new saw to fill the gap between the 660 and 880. Why the 650 was built has always been alittle puzzling to me...
