Hello again, I was wanting to know how much more power do you get from porting, been cutting wood all my life and the 661 and 461 stihls I have really seem to rip. I didn't know anything about it until I joined this site and it seems to be a really big thing. How much will I really notice and what's the average cost to do a saw? It's got my attention for sure!

cost, would be 275 to 325$.

Worth every penny.

I think it depends on the saw dude , ive ran some studs and duds..some saws dont seem to gain as much..1hp gain wouldnt cut it for me for 300 dollars , considering half of that horsepower is likely the muffler mod..to each is own..ive ran some with the squish set with the key filed and a muffler mod that were a tick behind a woods ported saw.

PSP's will always think it's worth the money. i don't think fin is a PSP though but i doubt he can actually keep up with a stock saw as most can't and are incapable of using a stock saw to their full potential. maybe the smile he gets on his face when cutting cookies is worth the $275-$325? i really don't get it. i got a stock 372 and a ported one. the ported one is faster but at the end of the day you save 15 min and that's if you can use the saw to full potential anyways. if your a homeowner who gives and if your a pro on day rate who gives either. ported saws have a place with volume rate guy for sure but that's about it. they are all just playtime/showtime for anyone else. there are guys here who could cut as much wood in 2 hours with a stock saw as a PSP could in 10 hours with a ported saw.

Never seen much point to modding myself , maybe the muffler but that's it .
Saw with a sharp chain and good operator cuts fast too .
Remember , no one is out there in the bush with you with a stop watch :D

Right lol I don't think I will do it I was just wondering what all the fuss is about. And I like to have the baddest saw around. Haha. I don't think I would justify the money for speed. A good chain is always key

I personally think some of these new saws run so well that a muffler mod is all they need..i have a few ported saws that are fun to run and stuff...its cool.

Ive ran a few i didnt think much of at all , Some people impress easy..i dont :)

You are forgetting to add back in the time spent polishing.

I put a 346 together for a guy in the tree bizzzz that i deleted the gasket on along with a muffler mod and unlimited coil and i shaved a 1/3 of the key off of and that little turd rips..im sure my ported 2153 is faster..but not 350 dollars faster..thats only my opinion.

Predator440, don't decide so quickly let some others weigh in on the issue. I only have one ported saw - a Wicked Worksaw MS 361. Worth ever penny to me. Not so sure I would port a 661 until the dust settles a little to see the gains and durability.

I'm not totally saying I won't do it, if I do it's gonna be a while. Just got the saw so I need to run it some more and re coop some funds back. I'm into modding anything I have so might be looking into it sometime !

Try one dude thats the only way your gonna find out , its all of our opinions..thats it.

Some ported saws are fun..some are hype.

Ported saws make sense to me when you don't want to carry the next bigger size saw. My ported 562 totally eliminated my need for a 70cc saw. To me that's a good thing.
My ported 385 was just the right saw, at the right price at the time. 99% of the time I doubt I achieve anymore with it than a stock one. It is cool though....

I've read that too ;)
Maybe @DexterDay could post up that video he has of a stock solo 665 vs a ported ms362. Unfortunately the link I have it looks like the vid was deleted.

Here are the times though... Masterminded m362 slower than stock solo 665 :(... IIRC the stock 665 also beat a ported 562xp.
