I had a post on craigslist to sell some older chainsaws when A guy called me and came over to to look at saws.

He liked the saws I had for sale and bought them. He noticed I was in the tree sevice buisness and started to tell me.......

Earlier this year he said "I was at a older ladies house to look at a saw, when she told me about three trees, one down and the other 2 part uprooted, one leaning on the other, right next to her house".

He went on to tell me he and his buddy wanted the oak wood so they told her they would cut em for the wood.
The one on the ground was easy he said, but the leaner towards the house,, well.....so they got a rope and put a little way up in tree and then started to do felling cut....well, he said, woooo, that big oak almost hit the roof and the other one almost hit the wall!!

Then he said, "I dont have insurance or license", :dizzy: just wanted the wood.

These homeowners amaze me that they want stuff done for FREE to the point they dont care about there home..
and if they got hurt on her property.........well who gets sued....

Ok, rant over

Around here home depot has mexicans for sale to do tree work at rock bottom prices. Like 2 30 packs of bud, and a $50 will suffice.

I'm going to all around and check on them deals. I'll proly break in real rich with a bus full of what ever those are

Then of course the word gets around about crappy business practices, and you go down in flames worse than what you start as.

And this is the exact reason Im wanting outta this trade!!!!! I was told to hang in there...& really want to for the true love of this trade, But.... when you not only hear about this kinda stuff...when you see it day in & day out & have to compete with it only to drive by while putting bids in & see the home depot crew doing the removal you bid on yesterday.......its dis-heartening!

I got a call from a guy at the NILB...or some thing like that, wanting me to become a member & let my voice be heard.....Well, I tell em.........all politicians need their pay cut in half minimum, they need to pay their own health care & all other perks!! they need to stay outta my pockets & do what the hell they were voted in office to do..........untill that happens all my membership money to you will be used for nothing but someone else to have a good time!!! & Im sick of it....!

I here ya, gets very frustrating seeing these bubba hacks out there taking away buisness.

I've been getting a lot of chipping jobs lately, because home owners been having landscapers and bubba with saw taking branches down and trimming but dont have a chipper or means to haul off all they cut, so they talk the HO into leaving it for a LOWER PRICE
so they can burn it....well HO's didnt get around to burning it, so now they want it gone.....I charge em $$$ so they loose in the long run, tree service would be cheaper, but the think there getting a deal with Joe bubba

I love business. My passion is business because it's the only sport you can play with philosophy and wisdom. My family for generations have been business men, doctors or both docs and biz men. I don't mind saying that about them.

I have to say that the rule of thumb in business as in capitalism is that as long as you are where the people that need what you have are, you stay in business. Now if you are only in the places where nobody needs what you have, sorry, but that isn't business. That's expecting the customers to find you instead of you solving your problem: ADVERTISING & INFORMING.

If they people see bubba, and they don't see you, then they take bubba. If they see Mr. $454 an Hour, and they don't see Mr. $101 an Hour, they take Mr. $454.

Now if they can't pay or don't know why to pay a service like yours a higher price for the job, then where in the biz were you??? If you think you're service is well worth paying for, then get the word out that you're in town, and why you charge what you do.

Just compare a bag of chips. Same thing in each bag, but two different businesses selling each one. One goes for $2 more than the other, and it's like this everywhere. Why? Same thing goes for shoes. Why? Because the higher priced companies have the money to say, "We are here!!!" in every crevice, hollow, and cranny anywhere you can think of. Nobody does not know that they are around. Now folks think what brand do I want, and they are all about the same, but who do I trust? Then they think about who to go with on this big decision. Does a picture of the LXT Express Tree Riders come up in their minds? Well, why in the biz not?

Point blank: you did not make it know that your brand of tree riders are here. They didn't know, so they buy those cheap tricks, and forget that they ever did. They didn't know why the other bunch costs more. They've never seen that business before, but this brand is cheaper, and Bubba is right there itching to get to work. They're satisfied, but you're not. ADVERTISE

Enlighten us, FTA. What sets your special brand of tree riders apart?

FTA................what a fine post of udder stupidity, all that typing & not one point in there!!

Look Mr. I have doctors & business people in the family ...........The problem is not the obvious 101 biz role of advertising, the problem is & you need to read what woodsman wrote that I was agreeing to:

problem(s).........illegals, fresh startup biz`s with no license, insurance & similar to you.......no skill!!!! not to mention the work under the table types that dont pay taxes, those who have **** for equipment, no professionalism, & basically have no clue about tree care or business at all.....! thats what is ruining our trade along with many other reasons; Now........you mention advertising, well sprout I pretty much have that covered, along with many other business media markets that do me very well....BUT

Competing against a guy with a ####ing lawn mower, non insured, under the table, will remove your tree for firewood & so on types......kinda drives the legit biz owner to the fringes of weather to join em or beat em!! well nutpump im not lowering my standards for those whom you dwell with.........Ill bow out taking on work here & there untill the idiot types (you) in this biz are drowned out because of stupidity & not knowing how to bid to make profit or to provide the things which are necessary to run a successful biz!!

Lxt, yer compliments are kind of korny. Im not gonna hold anyones feet to the fire though. After all, what can cyber fire do to anyone's feet anyway???

I can appreciate everything you are saying. I can picture myself in your shoes not winning bids because youre such a foul man. I dont blame you, and how can i blame the consumers? Thats fair right, lxt?

Then I give myself credit for putting my two bubba hands to work instead of into my pockets like a lot of cry babies may instist  There is no use joining the cry babies that can't doing anything for themselves or the ones that insist we leave all of the cake for them and go cry too.

Bubbas don't cry. They gett'em chainsaws, pick'em up trucks, pass go, n try.

Let them have that money. They're broke. Besides those NZ trees aren't here anyway are they, Cinder McSphereson? :msp_thumbup:

FTA, this is an International tree care forum albeit dominated by the US input, perspective from around the world is valuable, not just your myopic one from your immediate surroundings.
Many issues pertaining to this business are the same the world over, do yourself a favour and allow your horizons to be broadened.
No need to diss the non-Americans dude.

Eh, Mr. Sphereson said I seemed a little too eager to get to business around this world. I'm going to show a little reservation at this moment without any more explanations until Timbo comes back to cut down the next one. :msp_thumbdn:

If he's anything like me, doing nothing about something isn't in his blood. He'll be climbing back in this thread any minute now to get to work on me. That's when I can really find out what my tree scare business is aaaaaaallllllllll about. LOL

So we're all supposed to cry for LXT because he's going out of business, but then we're supposed say, "Wow, you're a really lucky business boy." Is that it?

If I asked you where you learned to write and speak, that would be too far off of your agenda wouldn't it? Instead, I'll just ask you how was jail? They're really heading up the tree services these days with the guys like yourself.

So LXT, where do we go from here? They actually chose you over the guy with an electric saw. Remember, the sky is the limit.

FTA: I'm a bit disappointed in you.

You used to try a little harder to be pleasant, despite your relative lack of experience. Now I see that you are picking fights, and mostly portraying yourself as a complete ass. Have you been drinking too much, or what?

Please go back, read what you have been typing, make a few retractions, and we'll probably overlook most of your jibberish.

This forum used to be filled with conversation and lively debates conducted between some real tree experts. Then they changed the website, and now all I seem to find is this kind of drivel.

Please stop.

I'm just playing with you LXT. You're like a puppy that needs a fist to gnaw on because your teething. It's just what pops up on my screen, and I'm never expecting it to keep popping up there every day. No more for a while. Big man's honor
