This saw has a thread already on it. The previous owner
found this saw in a barn. It was his grand dads. I don't know
the history but it is about as new as you will find. I dought it
cut more than a half dozen cuts. The seller was looking to sell
and had many attractive offers but he didn't really want to ship.
I was also trying to buy it but this guy was impossible. Trying
to buy this saw was like trying to get laid for the first time. Our
last email way over a month ago i told him to sell it to someone
else that he has done nothing but waste my time and i was tired
of getting jerked around. Well last Thursday he emailed me again
and said he wanted to sell it to me. We finally met at his home
which is 40 minutes from me. And now i own it. It needed fuel
lines and filter to get running but it will get a fresh carb kit in it
just for safety sake.
This saw is also much different than my others. It is a Zip Penn
Pro Kut made by Alpina. Notice the decals. Also has a strange
looking chain with the letter Z on the links. I believe it is the original
Zip Penn chain. It has a very strange grind as well. Kinda like square
ground but very different.

Great ... fabulous ... wonderful. Now even saws you REFUSE TO BUY are somehow making their way to you.

Very nice find! Your herd of 166s is going to start getting jealous.

P.S. Yes, you DO suck!

Fresh barn find, eh?

"To adjust the tension you just loosen up the two bar nuts, right here"

I have a fresh barn find too

I have the Zip Penn CP55, which is an Alpina Pro55. The Zip Penn Company is also known as Laser/Cutter's Choice in Erie. I stopped by their place when I was still living up there.

Nicely built saws, Lee. Your's really looks nice, as well as the 125 you were working on.

Chris

I know exactly what you mean Lee, I was the first person to make an offer and he was happy to ship then .... after a few messeges I said just tell me are we dealing or not ? and never heard another thing !
Well done it found a good home !

I used to think the 750 Homie was the best looking saw ever. I just changed my mind.

Nice.

Bob, Anyway you could scan it or get me a copy.
I would love to see that. Any idea as to the exact year.

Lee

I will dig it up tomorrow. Ran across it a few weeks ago while going thru about 2oo Hot Rod Mags from the 70's-80's that i just had to keep. The Zip Penn cat back then was about readers digest size...Bob

Same goes here. I offered the guy $100 more than the last near new one brought on e-bay (over $600) and he was ready to sell and then I never heard from him. The guy is either mentally unstable or just a lazy cull.

Either way, I'm glad to see you got it Lee.

Well that explains why my older Cutter's Choice catalog (2007) has bar, chain, and sprocket info for Alpina/Zip-Penn/Pro Kut sasw in their charts. I thought that was pretty obscure stuff. Now it makes sense.....

Lee,

What's that black lever above the clutch cover for? My guess is some sort of oiler adjustment....

Another VERY cool looking saw there Lee. The color combination is striking.

Thanks Brad as well as everyone.
The color combo is very unique and striking as you say.

You know Jacob, There were a few after this saw.
I'm sorry you didn't get it. I thought i was the first
to contact him so he said. We spoke on the phone
and i made a 200.00 offer. He was happy with that
until he started getting PM's and other offers. Then
he put up the first pic's. We went back and forth with
PM's. He said i just got offered 300.00 i said i might be
able to do that but i need to see the saw. Then it was 400.00
then 500.00 then i told him to sell it to someone else. I'm
tired of getting ####ed around and you have done nothing
but waste my time. i never gave him a price except the first
200.00. The saw was only 40 minutes from me. All i wanted
was to see the saw to make an honest offer. That finally happened.

That is the auto oiler adjustment.

Yet another beauty Lee.

I'd like to see a few photo's trying to capture the whole collection...

That is a really neat story,,, I agree with Jacob,,,,,

A video :rock::rock::rock:

That would be really cool Lee!!! You do have some neat toys!!!!!

If i can break away from the 125 resto
i will try to get the carb rebuilt and do
a video.
I'm very curious my self as to how she
pulls in some good wood.

Lee

I'm glad that saw ended up with an AS member so we can learn more about it and maybe see it run.
Have you played with those cutters yet ? I'm curious what you come up with to sharpen them. Triangle file ?

I'm glad (see above) that you were finally able to get the saw. This thread deserves to to get bumped back to page one.
