So today my lawyer calls me to inform me that I should have a settlement for a bad traffic accident I was in 2 yrs. ago, by the end of the year(I was stopped in construction traffic when someone rear ended me while traveling 65-70 mph, I got a really neat ride in an ambulance and 9 months of physical therapy now I'm "partially permanently disabled").

Aside from the obvious (paying bills...) I was thinking of a few new saws (as mine are all pretty much older than me) if money allows.

A friend of mine, and I do alot or tree trimming and complete tree removal as well as storm damage clean up...

Big to small:
MS460 - 28" - or MS660 - 32"
MS361 - 18"
MS260 Pro - 16"
MS192T - 14"

Does this sound like it will work? what would you change?

Until you've been there...

It's possible to lose your livelihood but not all physical ability. Friend of mine who worked for the railroad got clobbered by a minivan. He can barely walk - lost his job riding rails, but is trying to enjoy as much of life as he can - buying guns and shooting target matches, hunting, etc... Can't walk much at all and none without pain, but doesn't mean he's not allowed any hobbies. He wound up w/ a new house, etc...and would trade it ALL to be back in his single wide and able to walk and work the railroad again.

Yeah, hate to say it man, but you are the reason the rest of us are paying higher and higher premiums. You could have treated much, much more, and I hope you are healed up now, especially after 9 months of PT. The PT should resolve any injury, if it didn't, It was a waste of time and money. You will receive a high settlement, no doubt. May want to go for the light weight ones, seeing as how you are "disabled".

Hmmmm..........Maybe get the MS 361 with a 20 inch bar and add a Dolmar 5100S with a 18 inch bar. Minus the 260 pro:rockn: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon

Bad deal. Sounds like some serious injuries. Unlike UrbanLogger. If he had ER visit, and PT for 9 months, his were all soft tissue...no permanacy. Unless there's ruptured discs or something we don't know about. oh well...to each his own. Not trying to argue.

Yep. This is a tiny little window we're looking through at each other. We've all got a LOT more goin' on (I hope) than what we hammer out here.

I see lots of speculation, that you are partially permanently disabled but can do a lot of physical work. Here in lies the anomoly.

No undue disrespect nor offending anyone but I can understand this. As an employer if I had 2 guys to choose from, both can do the job but one has a limp or is slower etc he missus out. Also, our wc will pay out on aggravation of a pre-existing injury (wrong and stupid) so that means again I dont want people who may have niggling problems.

So, I understand that you are deservedly entitled to something, and you can work, especially for yourself at your pace. I only hope that the wc idiots here change their rules so aggravation of a pre-existing is exempted and if the event occurs the injured claims of the original incident or payout.

The selection of your saws is good except for the 192, piss that off and get a 200T :hmm3grin2orange:

I can identify with everything but the nice settlement. 4 herniated discs, 2 of them kind of bad. But I can still do okay. Some mornings are rough, others not so rough. But I play with my saws every chance I get. Don't ambulance rides suck?

BTW, UL, where in the "upper midwest" if I may ask.

'walk a mile in his shoes' kinda thing.

don't be so quick to judge. you don't know any of the facts of his case.

UrbanLogger, I can sympathize with your injury. Here is my story in short.I worked as a log truck driver in Boonvile NY. I fell off the top of the trailer while chaining down the logs.To cut to the chase I underwent an MRI. A badly damaged disk (L 4-L-5) could not be repaired.Much discomfort followed. I now have a BAK spinal bone cage implanted in my spine.I am now permanently disabled, partially.I am not able to work lifting heavy objects, and even changing spark plugs on my car causes much discomfort. However, I still work on saws on my work bench. I now have an Oregon 511 and am sharpening chains.Simple tasks like carb overhauls are with in my grasp.
Before my move to Texas, I tried many other ways to help me get employment. But in NY state, almost all employers considered me a liability. I was for a short time a licensed phletobomist and was doing well. The hospital did a check on me and I was summoned to the principals office. In short, no medical establishment would hire me due to my permanent medical condition. So here in Texas with the warm climate I sit at my bench and punch out saw chains.Best of luck into your future.

UL, on a side note, If the party that claims responsibility should have some educational benefits. Collage is one of the best offers going. I know because I spent 2 wonderful semesters in Mohaw Valley Community Collage in Rome NY. I had aspirations of being a respiratory therapist.Well with my medical condition being as it was, (like I mentioned) no medical establishment would hire me.Go to school. You are never to old to learn a new trade.A mind is a terrible thing to go to waste.Besides, collage has many great looking women of all ages.Ken

Oldsaw - I am in S.E. Wisconsin. The accident I was in caused buldged c4-c5 disc and brused c5-c6 disc, both in my neck, from the very very bad whiplash i had. They had to do orthiscopic surgery on one of then the other wasn't bad enough they told me. The guy who hit me told the police in his report that he wasn't paying attention because he was looking for a pack of gum, while on his cell phone, and he may have been speeding. He assumed full responsibility for the accident. My PPD (partial perm. disability) pertains to my neck, it is easy to agrivate/cause pain which gives me pretty bad headaches from time to time as for the rest of me, I usually feel fine. I for the most part work on the ground, my business partner does most of the climbing. This is the reason I work for my self, not to many people want to hire someone who has PPD even if its 1%.

I tried collage but I'm not much of an artist. I do teach a little bit of arboriculture at the local college.;)

Thanks for TRYING to get a job after your injury.

My appologies. From the org post, I thought you were not hurt as bad as you really were. Sorry for jumping the gun. I have 2 discs badly ruptured in my lower back from an old wave runner accident. Surgery was the last thing I wanted, but after trying everything, that was my only resort. I've never looked back. It was outpatient surgery. they trimmed the discs up and sent me home. I was back in class4 days later after a long weekend of having all the girls at school feel sorry for me! lol. All was well 'til I jumped up the stairs at my apartment. Must have slipped one a little more. I've lived with it this time, but feel it every moring and most every day. With the help of advil and stretching, I do most anything I want. Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope the settlement is fair.

Wood Cutter - I live in Racine area, but I do hunt about not to far from Sparta, I hunt about 10 miles west of Nielsville, on the North side of hwy 10.

Stumper - like I said, I tried to get back into the Tree industry after my injury, but everyone was afraid I'd hurt my neck again, thus me and a buddy starting our own thing, business is slowly picking up, next summer we may be able to go full time. Right now I am going to Tech school for welding. I'm a welder right now, basically I sit on my rear and TIG weld stainless washroom fixtures all day. I like it, but I don't, I'd rather be outside.
