Guys, I really appreciate all the responses. After thinking it over maybe I should just put good chains on our 2 big Poulans and use them for cutting big logs to length. They both do a pretty decent job with a 20" bar and a good chain. The smaller Poulans give us more trouble and they vibrate BADLY! What would you all think of going to a 346xp Husky with a 16" bar for limbing and cutting up the small stuff and sticking with the 2 big Poulan for cutting up the big stuff? I really think the big saws work fine and when we're cutting the big stuff it's just get them started and let them do the work anyway. Would the 346xp be good for limbing and sawing up the stuff under 10"? Thanks again for the advice.

That's not a bad plan, either. It really depends on what you're into most of the time. If It is 15"+ hardwood, log after log, then go the big saw route - a nice 7900 and a 20" bar is happiness in that sort of cutting. But if the trees you're into are usually only 10" at the base and then they promptly branch out (think: open-grown trees), then ratio of big:little would favor a quick limber saw like the H346 for the bulk of the work.

Which sorts of Poulans are you running? Stuff like the old 3700?

Current saws

We currently have 5 Poulans. I am not sure of all the model #'s. We have the largest of the recent green Poulans, a 2150 I believe it is, a small Poulan Pro, and the biggest of the new Poulan Pro's, along with a Poulan Pro that was probably an 18" saw new, but now it's wearing a 16" bar. I run full chisel chain on the big green saw, file the depth guages and keep it good and sharp. The 2 new Poulan Pro's were my Dad's he had just bought them before he was killed in a terrible head on collision in October. Like I said the 2 big Poulans serve the purpose, the 2 little saws buzz our hands badly. I think I have hit on the correct first step up. Buy the 346XP then maybe later replace the big saws. Thanks to you all.

Good choice. To bad U.S.A. does not carry the Jonny red 2147.
