I've been looking for a backup saw for my Echo 310 for clearing trails. Not because I need one but because I want one.
I didn't move quick enough and missed a Redmax 3800 and a Jred 2145. I found this 026 locally for a pretty good price. I got it started and it seems to run OK but the gas in was 18 months old. The piston and cylinder look new and the compression was 180 lbs. The saw is in good shape but the rim sprocket, chain and bar are rough. It has a 16" bar, A Stihl chain with 325 stamped on the bumpers and 3 stamped on the drive links. I assume that's a .325 pitch and a .050 gauge.
The sprocket is .325 7 teeth.
I am on a tight budget but will need to replace these soon. It will be used primaily for clearing a variety of types of trees that have fallen across trails. Size would be from 4" diameter up to 20" diameter with 12" being average.
What bar / chain should I go with?

Here's a few pics of the saw. I'll attach some later of the muffler.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tim

You could run an 18" if ya wanted. I ran a 325 and 18" combo on my 026 worked good.

You can slap an 18" .325 on it with no problems... Just call it your "big" saw... For trail clearing, use a semi-chisel chain...

I thought of that Steve but by the time it gets to Canada with shipping etc it's well over $300. I bought the 026 for $200. Just fiddling around with the 026 now. I also wanted something I could really get into as well as sort of a project.
I love my little Echo and certainly have no issues with their saws.

I use an Echo cs440 with a M/M and it does very well clearing trails. I bought it new 5years ago and it has given me excellent service. For my backup I use a Jonsered 2055, great saw!!!

A decent price for one of the lighter 50cc saws made, what's in store for it? Muff modd , porting. Steve

Had it running today. This saw really rips!
I think before I do any mods to the saw I'm going to go through it carefully to see if there's any issues that need fixing.
I posted in the beg for manuals thread to see if anyone would be kind enough to send me an e copy of the shop manual.

I think I'm really going to like this saw.

Tim
