I already had one 261cm, and a broken one caught my eye. Cheap. Bought it, and replaced the busted fuel tank, and with a few other bits the saw runs like a champ.
I really don't NEED two 261's, and there is a local guy who wants it. I probably will sell it to him...

Then, Should I go and get the 400cm?

It would make a nice fit into the lineup between the 261, and the 461

NEVER mind that my mother was curious how many chainsaws I have, and how many do I need?

Anybody with 400cm experience?

If i was going to make a stept up from my cm261 it would be the. STIHL 500i this would be as big a saw as i would really need.

I have had the pleasure of cutting a couple cookies with a 500i, Sure I would like one. Do I need it? no.
I already have:
150T for occasional tree work
261cm (2 of them)
440 (rarely used, but runs nice)
461 that was masterminded
064 (2 of them) my go to saws for blocking
660 (rarely used, but when needed it cuts nice)

I think a 400cm fits in there...

I sold my 261 and got a 400. I have an old 024 I was contemplating selling instead but the 261 and 400 are so close in size I don't think I'd have used the 261. If I were keeping a 261 then I think stepping up to the 462 or 500 would be a good 2 saw plan. 261 next to 400 for comparison!

The 400CM is a badass saw… the lightweight magnesium piston winds up fast and smooth and unless you need to run a bar longer than 25” or whatever the limit on it is (I *think we’ve run 25’s on them) there’s no need to go bigger.

And yes the 500 fuel injected saw has got impressive stats weight power all that. And people seem to love them but personally I’m going to wait until the universe has totally vetted the fuel injection and somebody has figured out how we can hack it ourselves so I don’t need to take it to a dealer for service. But there’s no denying the stats and performance of the 500

OP I can’t answer the do you need another saw question 🤣 but I can tell you your 461–badass saw that it is… will feel like a brick if you buy a 400 or a 462 or a 500… all of which are a few lbs lighter than your 461 if you care about weight (I’m old so although I love a heavy saw to let it do the work on the tree because of the “old” thing I’m digging lightweight saws for the carrying-it-over-my-shoulder thing…)

Nice pic's comparison there, thank you.
I will think about this, but since I already have a 461, no need for the next model, a 462.
The only reason for a 500i would be bragging rights. But that won't fit into my budget very well.

The honest truth is, I should sell the spare 261, squirrel the funds away. and be happy with what I have.

Except for Chainsaw Acquisition Disorder

Missed the bit where you said you had a 461!
The 400 makes a fabulous one saw only but it's a bit awkward in your line up as it's close in size to a 261 and close in power to a 462!
You could either flog one of the 261s and the 461 and get a 462 to compliment the remaining 261, or flog them all and get a 400!
