Oh ya, the saws somebody just droped them off and wants me to smarten them up.View attachment 434704

And the ones on the roof? I see....skylights?

...... and got a tree removal job to boot. She loves me, cause I quoted three hundred or 50$/hr., which ever is cheaper. Just of few goon trees about 8" dia. max. Tree removal company wanted 1500.00, but I know what side my bread is buttered on.

What's this world coming to.....a logger doing tree service work? Jeesh, next it will say firewood hack under your avatar..;)

I'm gonna go off topic here I'm thinking about getting a pot grade saw this year and I was wanting some input should I go with the ms461 magnum or ms661 magnum?
I bought a ms461 last year and just love it has a lot of power. I was going to buy a ms661 and the guy at Madsens talked me out of it. I mostly run a 24 inch bar on it but it has no problem running a 36 inch bar.

So, did the 20 stick take down today. First tree I got the saw into was leaning towards the power line which I didn't see till I sawed out the undercut. It was just another simple matter of refalling said goon tree.
5.5 hrs to dump, limb, block and take terminal branches to the nuisance grounds.
Im feeling like a real Tree Ape right about now. Lol

I used a Stihl stock 021 for the take down because there were 2 off duting RCMP across the road, so beening considerate the trusty 021 came in handy, but that Picco chain is pretty wimpy. I like being a woodtick because you get to meet all the neighbours.

You can make beer money at it. A lot depends on your location. If your near a large city people are willing to pay a fair price for firewood. I was getting 250 a cord delivered. I made the most money selling stacks of 20 pieces for 10 bucks out in front of my shop on a main hiway. Worked out to about 400 cord. I would set up on cold afternoons from about 3 till 6. I was in the Houston area so plenty of folks. The deal with firewood is cutting down on the number times you have to touch each piece. I would sometimes have to touch each piece 7 times. Drives you nuts. Where I live now people only want to pay 125 a cord. To much work at that price. I sold all seasoned hardwood oak and hickory. Good luck.

where I'm at you can make around 175 180 a cord but up around st Louis you can make 400-450 pickup only.

your saying, you haven't quite got the house done,,and your already thinking of adding on?????????????????:laughing:
It happens. On a road I traveled regularly to commute to work a guy built what looked like a nice 1 or 2 bedroom house and closed it in before winter. Next year he added what looked like another bedroom and maybe a bathroom. The next year he added on maybe a family room. Those of us that used the road regularly called it the unfinished house. When I drive past it today it looks like a nice roomy 3+ bedroom house. By the way it turned out, my guess is he planned it that way all along and just cut up the plans along natural breaks so that he could enclose it each year.

I'd like to build a log cabin one day

Pick logs that the bees won't bore into or termites eat, etc. My boss lives in a big one he built, unfortunately he used western white cedar which is like candy to the bumble bees, they eat it up constantly to go in and lay eggs. They are relentless.

If he had used something like native eastern red cedar it would have been a lot better. I volunteered and cut a lot of red cedar logs off the property and replaced all the timbers holding up the porch, else it would have fallen off by now. Not a single bit of rot or insect damage so far, pristine.

I would guess he did it debt-free and if he drives, it's an old banger. If so, he is a true patriot and will have built and well-stocked a big larder and have plenty of guns and ammo. Let's see how long the rest of the world survives chewing their worthless credit cards.

My late sister and her husband at the time did their house like that. Pay as you go and build, zero interest paid to any bank. First year, buy land (around 3 acres), get well and septic in, graded, etc stayed in a nearby rental house. Second year, rough frame in house(I helped on weekends), add plumbing and wiring, good enough to move in by end of that year in the fall. Third year finish interior and some other stuff, improve the lot, add gardens, big woodshed etc. 3 years start to finish, owned free and clear.

The shop I work out of is like that. Over the ~25 years it's been "additioned 7 or 8 times.
Started as an ATCO trailer basically, then a log cabin was added, then an upstairs (now an apartment which is rented out), then a showroom area, then a machine room, then a big shop, then an add on to the showroom, then another shop area and a break room and bathroom.... or something along those lines. I won't even talk about all the other buildings!

It's actually fairly well laid out all consindering.

Anyhow, as far as earning a living on firewood, that's what I do.
