I felled a dead 75 ft tall cottonwood and hit a nice northern pin oak, damaging the top and shearing off one side of its branches. It's about 25 ft tall and 4" dbh. Will this tree recover (and look decent at some point) or should I coppice it? I am rehabbing a property and attempting to save/release as many native trees as possible.

Trees have latent (unused) buds all over the place. Cutting a branch stimulates on near there to grow.
If the sun is on the side that the new branch sprouts on, it will grow quickly and catch up eventually.
