What it this "The Dan" business?

Overcompensation?

At any rate, even my wife laughed at that knot, and I hadn't said a word. She just walked by when I was looking at it and chuckled and said that it looked like stupidity.

Indeed.

If you want to use the truck, that's fine, but why not try one of these:

Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.

We have enough danger to contend with in this industry, why ask for more when you know better?

This isn't a game, there are no extra daredevil death defying points for using that set up.

But if then in "The Dan's" mind it is a game, then lets rethink and reconfigure the points table.

More points for being safe and productive, points taken away for being a blockhead.

You always win when you make it home, oh..and "Bonus Round" is when you spend time with the family after you get there.

C'mon Dan...you know we are hacking on you with the best possible intentions.

Everybody does dumb stuff. Own it, get over it, and file that setup in the circular.

The point behind showing off my kid? Well that should be self explanatory BUT other than that it was to show what knids of things The Dan thinks about when chosing a knot... actually at every step. I told you The Dan overthinks, you have to believe him.
Yes, its not the right knot BUT it was hooked -up by someone who could handle it. Once again I love you all, for different reasons of course, and thank you for your concern and for your critism. I would not want some rookie thinking he could do what The Dan does. It would not be good.
I know I always sound like I think I am great but really... not so. Most likely I will resume to using a strap and biner to secure my line to hitch and use the remote starter to operate the truck from aloft.
Now you all saw me lift the truck which that clove, right? The Dan can walk in the living room in the dark cause he knows where he put the furniture. Wait til I show you the blindfoded, one handed, reach around notch cut then backcut while taking out the top.

Even most rookies with half a brain would look at that and never want anything to do with it.

I never want to become such an errogant pro veteran that I make a mistake that not even a rookie would be responsible for.

Yeah, I always want to be a rookie in some sense or another. Mostly common sense.

Not if I beat you to it Dan.............lol. I like how you took the time to demonstrate the clove with the truck lifting. "A" for effort. Not like you had anything better to do, lol. Remote starter? Now that's rich.

LOL!

Of course it's not really about the knot chosen.......it's about the very poorly chosen anchor point.

Brain damage? You betcha!

Right...she was laughing at the whole set up as preposterous, making note of the obvious.

I told her that she wasn't alone.

The anchor is primary, but the knot is still a problem, especially when paired with the point of anchor.

The problem is a cycles to failure thing, you bounce on the rope while ascending, and it can cause the hitch to creep, and roll.

Probability low, impact high.

Yes, its not the right knot BUT

Here's your sign. ;)

(if I could remember the comedians name...oh... Bill Ingval...nod to him)

Off to Church I go..

how about OSHA?? i was going to say that all he needs to do is get a shackle and take the ball off! seen that custom chrome rig and my heart skipped a beat, that's a nice piece of hardware!!! what about a good old ring pintle???

Dan the man

Well then I might as well sell out and get that icecream shop my wife wanted to get.

Your own words, ensure the stability of your family, before something happens to you being reckless. Seams to me you know better, but are reckless because can or because U R the DAN.

A wise man often asks me, what impact would you have on your family if you were in a wheel chair and couldn't even feed your self? Death you can get over in time, a life time of agony for u and the family is a hard one to swallow. I love the climb and the thrill that comes with it. There many safe options out there, please use them if not for your sake, the family's.

Oh now comes the switch.
Do you feel as though you are qualified to make that judgement on the condition of my brain.
Do you remmember the time when we were driving down the road with a trailer and the hitch came off? Neither do I.

The Dan did produce a very beautiful little girl! I know she owns you.

how about OSHA??

Do you get the impression that he cares about OSHA?

I think there is a line in The Z about not tieing a climbing line to a vehicle, but it's not relevant in this discussion, since this is all about calling Dan an idiot for increasing his risk level like that.
