since we havent had any arguments lately about which stock saw is the fastest, no modifications at all. I think its due time we had another thread on this.

so, which saw in any given class do you think is the fastest? I dont care if you say 090, 346XP, or what.
its just too happy around here. hope this doesnt get me banned lol

for me, I think the fastest stock saw in the 50cc class, is the 346xp, 70cc class 372XP, and in the 80cc class, my mac 250 :p

In the 50 CC class.... how about the Dolmar 5100. In the 70cc class... how about the Dolmar 7300.

The "Wildthing" must fit in here somewhere. ;)

I've got all the classes covered from 25.6 cc to 125 cc.As luck would have, however, none of mine ever seem to be those fast ones I've heard so much about.
I did make a few cuts with a 50 cc Dolmar,a few weeks back.Real peppy little saw,I was in total amazement.

Not a current production saw but-The Dolmar 120si was/is the fastest stock saw I've ever seen. Maybe mine is exceptional but it doesn't just scream-it screams with the bar buried and someone leaning on it!

I will just toss one out their the 066 magnum it is one of the fastest cutting saws that I have run the 088 is not all that it is cracked up to be unless you are cutting a 5 foot tree or something.

I had a 120 super--the precursor of the 120si--and I share your sentiments.

Danman is right, 066 out of the box is fast.
Copy that, but the hot 066's were the old ones which came stock with dual port mufflers, meaning they had about 4 times the port size of today's choked up saws. Mine were rated 7.7 hp, which equals the best pwr to weight ratio ever in a stock saw. Ken Dunn told me that the 066 also has very aggressive magneto timing and other reasons why the saw is so fast....today's Dolmar 7900 and 5100 also meet this criteria...unlike all of Stihl's current lineup, at least as they come out of the box.

In the 40 CC I like the 346 XP...
I ran one of those little screamers a few weeks back, also.I am still in awe how such little saws can cut so fast.In my "stuck in the 60's mind",I still can't believe it. :dizzy:

Thats a real progress here
How lot of gasoline my Druzhba eated and of the blue smoke produced, how ???? heavy it was and how little of the work it was gave out :blob2:

Thats why I can't seem to sell my 066 magnum and trade it for the new 660. I have used a 660 and it is not as good as a 066. Maybe one day I will get a new one and send it somewhere to get it modifed like my 066. That saw really wakes up after some modds.

How's the 346 compared to the old 242 (xp?) had one of those years ago at work (stolen along with ten other saws) and thought it was the fastest little saw I'd run. suppoesed to be set at 16,500 if I remember right! I was too chicken, we ran it at 15,500.
