Got a call this morning from a buddy saying there was a logging winch on craigslist. I looked first thing this morning and it wasnt there. Long story short, I just got it hooked up. Its an FIW 3500. Guess it has mostly fransgard parts. So far Ive pulled a couple 6" logs, both at the same time, awesome. I hooked up to a 12' 24" log that it wouldnt pull. Not sure if I need to adjust the clutch. What rpms do you guys run on the PTO?

unless im pulling a really long way i pull with the tractor at an idle. the winch has enough power to stand the tractor up at idle.

if you rig up a way to pull from the tractor seat you can control it better with a foot throttle. but you want to have a screen to protect you from the cable should it break.

FYI im pulling with a farmi 351p on a deere 990 (40hp)

Yeah this one looks like its designed to be operated from one side. Im going to weld a pulley on a swivle up high on the frame and add a length of rope. Ill be able to pull from both sides and the seat.
Ill also have to look at adjusting the clutch. I was pulling a little above idle. Hopefully its just an adjustment.

I hqve a Norse 390 on a Deere 4310. it's by far my favorite attachment. I can hook it to a big tree and it will pull the tractor backwards-- so, yes, I think you need to adjust the clutch on yours. A 12' log should pull no problem

ktm - Some pics would be nice - That winch should pull your tractor backwards [what tractor?] Should be just clutch adjustment, but the clutch may be shot too, which is why it was for sale?

Mounted on a 4510

Just played a little more with it. Gotta watch the kids so I cant really have fun, i mean work it. Adjusted the clutch a little and it pulled that 12' 24" log with no problem. Much happier now.
I could only get one pic loaded. Cant believe Im becoming technically challenged

Hey, was that the one the guy was asking $1200 ??? I thought hard about going to look at it when it was first listed....... but my conscience talked me out of it since i currently have no work lined up.

But i'm glad one of us got it !!

yeah thats the one. Told me while loading it that he had 3 other calls in the time it took me to drive there. I figure even if it needs a new clutch plate, Ill be ahead of buying a new one. I just need to keep the kids occupied now so that I can go play with it.

nice unit.

sounds like the clutch is worn out or the linkage is out of adjustment.

TreeMDS has a Farmi on his JD 4600.it is sick how fast it is.if he had a grapple on the front he'd possibly impress himself.

Just welded up a swivel pulley to the top so now I can operate it from both sides. Also added a loop of chain to hold my peavey. Gonna add one for the maul tomorrow. Just need to come up with a good way to mount the chainsaw and all the necessities. The small shelf I built between the ROPS sticks out to far when the winch is lifted all the way up.

Yeah, i dont know why the pic is sideways. I swear i wasnt drinking when I took it and i wasnt standing on the wall.

I "adjusted" your pic. just a little - They don't give you much room on that type of winch for mods, thats for sure. The tall angled sides look like the only place? Expanded metal makes good baskets for holding "stuff" Maybe one attached to both sides? Or, to hold a saw, I came up with these made out of plywood. First one is on my winch

The second on the front of my tractor
