well i have a small firewood business and i wanted to just get a feel for how much the lowest lvl firewood processor costs. What is the best company for the money and how much we talking.....50k 75k 100k ..i don't need or want some of the monsters i see around here ...is there a cheaper model that will work well for say 16'' and smaller ?

What kind of wood are you handling?

I would suggest you look at the "wood chomper"

www.chomper.net

It handles up to 16" logs.

You can't beat it in straight, green wood, but apparently it doesn't like dry frozen or knotted wood.

The cheapest is advertised for around 14,000, it runs off PTO

It all depends on the wood you will be processing

another most basic model is the "woodbine"

good luck

In Scandinavia we have several makes of this type of equipment. Both Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish companies make very good, high quality firewood processors. Perhaps some are sold in the US.

I can find some links (some with video) if interested.

Bailey's markets a processor and conveyor in the neighborhood of 23K. They are made by Blockbuster. I haven't heard anyhting good or bad about them, but I have also never seen anybody run one except at Forestry expo.

I talked to Timberwolf last year about one of their mid-range processors and they were talking about 45K w/ the conveyor and a one year build time.

Processors need to be eating wood to make you money otherwise they are just a convenience that you could achieve by sitting on the couch and paying someone else to cut and split.
