Philbert got me one of these tools.
Was tryin to make 2 20in loops into a 36in loop.Oregon lpx,I could not get it to push the rivets out.
Have watched and read how to ,but it does not push these rivets out.

Philbert got me one of these tools. . . . I could not get it to push the rivets out.
The 'trick' is to do it gradually: squeeze both rivets on the tie strap lightly; turn the knob slightly and squeeze each rivet again; wash/rinse/repeat. Might take several passes.

If you try to drive them out with one squeeze, you will be disappointed.

I recently tried using a 'Pocket Chain Breaker' as another option - the old guys say that they used these in the field:

I was pretty disappointed. Did not punch cleanly. If I have to file the head of the rivet off first, I really don't need this tool. Might work better with larger pitch chain? Maybe a technique thing?

I like my bench top spinner and breaker set best, but was able to break the sample chain (3/8 low profile) better with the Granberg tool (following notes in post above) than with the pocket anvil. JMHO.
