I was bucking a freshly felled 24" sugar maple this evening while the wife was watching and she almost jumped up off the stump when I leaned over the log to the left of the saw to make sure I was deep enough on my over the top cut to make the 20" reach saws in question are an ms290 and a pro mac 610 both sport 20" the stihl in .325 and the mac in 3/8 her point was if I am over the tree watching the bar disapear who is running the saw. I simply laughed and said i can chew gum and walk can't I?

the wife has her own saw a 018c i got it for her so she could come help in the woods. SHe is too smart though she pretends she is scared of it till i am not looking then she digs her heels in and gets to work the problem with yesterday was i broke her saw i was useing it to help free one of the big saws and accidently hit the pro mac with the chain snapping a cutter off.

I think your wife may be right. Leaning over the tree to take a peak at the end of your bar while cutting is probably a bit unnecessary.

Scott is right, IMHO it is better to be safe,,, or if you are concerned you may get your bar pinched ive discoverd drom past experience that is a good time to pull out or just stop and drive a wedge if needed,,, and scope everything out, You are blessed to have a wife,who comes with you,,, and obviously cares about your well being,,,,, Just my .02,,, be safe out there,,,, IT IS A PROVEN FACT COMPLACENCY WILL GET YOU HURT!!!!!!

You mean we all coulda put a saw under the tree this year for our wives and it would'a been ok??? Hmmm Valantines day is coming up, maybe I'll buy her one and stick little hearts all over it and also get some flowers to go with it. :jester:
