Also take a look at the pictures from the South Boston (Heritage Days) GTG. Havid Harsh has something similar he uses to display his saws.

chain racks

My shop is a converted basement garage with two roll-up doors and a walk-through door between them. There is 8' headroom clearance to the bottom of the 2' tall floor trusses. I attached 1x6 boards hung to the upstairs sub floor centered between the floor trusses. The boards are edge-on to the sub floor. There is a horizontal 3 1/2" drywall screw every 4" along the centerline of the board, with a similar string of screws on the other side of the board on a 2" offset along the board. I thus have a 2.75" hanger peg every 2" on each of the boards. Each 12' board has about 70 hanger pegs. After I inspect, repair, and sharpen a chain I attach a label ( masking tape around the chain that forms a tab about 3" long). I use a sharpie pen to mark the pitch, gauge, tooth type, link count, and the percentage of tooth remaining. I group the chains by pitch and gauge on the hanger boards. So if I need a 91-link full chisel .050 gauge chain, I get my retriever stick ( a broomstick with a protruding 20d nail in the end ) and bring down the matching chains from that peg and select the chain. This setup if fine for chains fitting bars up to 36". For longer bars I hang the chain doubled over the peg.

Ya Kevlars log display is the SH$T!!!!(just like procarbines!!)

Randy, this may look disrespectful, but the Brides Aunt is over for a week from Monster(Munster) Dutch, so she made me drink this for the week! Not bad!! But will be honest, she loved the homemade wine!!!!!!!

I speak no Dutch, but the beverages, usually help with the slurred translations! LOL!!!!

This room is 16x22. There has been another
8 foot section added to the right of the shorter
shelfs. Theres 175 saws or so in this room now
and over 125 have bars on them. Might not be
the ideal system for you but works great for me.

WOW! :jawdrop::jawdrop: I'm a bit speechless...

NOT to go off track (MATT?!?!?!? :arg:lol but that is ONE HELL of a collection... Hoarders? I didn't see any trash in there...and I'm SURE Lee Know's EXACTLY where everything is...

Lee what part of MA are you in? I'm just south of worcester. Can I come gawk sometime? hehe

IF you ever need to, I dunno, make some space where the dolmars (166 :)) or SP100/PM1000's sit, I've always wanted one...even if it needs some resto...

oh, LEE, where's the new 51 in all this??:clap:

Your shelving actually works out well... I may work on that... I'll have more foot room :)

That is cool! bars and chains are the bane of my existence at the moment. I need to take some time to clean/organize.

Anything else exciting people do?

Workbenches? (Lee's must be 28 ft long....that way there can be 4 60" barred saws on there @ once...)

I thought I was getting better. I thought I had enough to stay happy forever. I keep mine on a bunch of wire push carts, but I see that with a wall or two of shelves, I too can build .....a saw library !!!!:clap:
Really nice dispays gents!

Wow Lee. :jawdrop: Very nice collection. The rest of us are mere mortals in comparison.

Further the analogy of "saw libraries", do you have a index card file Lee? Using the Doly Decimal system maybe?:givebeer:

Most of my saws currently hang from hooks lagged into the floor joists for the story above my shop (garage under living area). My bars & chains hang from a peg rack on the back wall of my shop. Segregated by mount type, pitch, guage & length. I marked with Sharpie above each peg what is supposed to be there. Works most of the time until I get in a big hurry and don't put things where they're supposed to go....:dizzy: One side benefit to hanging my saws from the ceiling is that most people seem to be afraid to walk under them. This is a good thing IMO, don't like anyone interloping into MY shop, even the wife.:) They are a bit harder to count this way too, because they aren't lined up neatly, more staggered/random. The only better way to hide the numbers is the pile method, but that really sucks when you want the saw on the bottom........

I showed my wife Leeha's pictures before she left this morning. She called me a "slackard" for only having around 30 saws.

I tried to defend myself by citing all the bars and reels of different chain I have on hand, but she wasn't impressed.

She also pointed out that everyone was alot neater than me......

LOL.

She doesn't think 30 saws is so many anymore, so many thanks Leeha and the other posters with pics.
