Been looking for one of these for a while. Local shop took it on trade and went through it. Fires right up and runs nicely. Too nicely....I don't really need to do anything to it. No fun.

I posted a thread in the general forum.
But thought this saw should belong here
with the other Homelites.
A nice 7-29 from a fellow member. It will
require fuel system work but it is a nice
looking saw with tons of compression.
I added the 42 inch bar. It came with a shorty.

Today while finishing up a Lombard a fellow member donated to me, I received a surprise when I checked the chain.

1/2 pitch Homelite loop in great condition.

BTW very nice 7 29 Lee. You have to be planning on a larger garage to store your collection:rock:

Get the damn thing anyway. It looks good, and they're plenty of fun to run. You could always tear it all the way down and replace all the gaskets, bearings, and seals.............just for good measure. Heck, clean the entire thing with one Q-tip. That'd take you a few hours...:hmm3grin2orange:

It's in my shop Aaron, already muff-modded it-runs real nice - Sam

Somebody has to keep the thread going!

My 150 Automatic is leaking fuel from somewhere. I'm trying to pull the case apart, and it looks like someone else has tried this before, and stripped out the phillips head screws.

I've got a few questions -

1) Any pointers on getting the screws out?
2) When you guys restore old saws, what paint do you use?
3) If I have to cut/drill the screws out, where should I get replacements?

I think that if I cut the screw heads off, and pull the case apart, the remaining studs on the screws could probably be hit with PB Blast, then backed out with a pair of vice grips.

Thoughts?

sounds good, unless the paint is really good, why don't you buy a used tank and swap them? I've done it to a bunch of the old Homelites, plenty of parts and easy to do, maybe get a tank with better paint so you won't have to paint.

Those 150 tanks ain't made to be split. Sounds like no alternative now though. PB would probably help, but one thing I've learned when removing a stripped off bolt is "heat is your friend". A propane torch (oxy-acetylene even better) will do wonders to help get those things out, just don't get it hot enough to ignite the magnesium! . If you can grab with vise grips you'll be in good shape, but I always have bad luck trying to drill out bolts from magnesium. Best of luck.... 150s are a nice saw.

This 150 I actually got from a garage sale, $15. I'll keep you guys updated - and if anyone has a decent shape 150 tank, let me know.

Or hot enough to explode the tank....are you making a bomb?

I watched this happen once when I was small, just the residual fuel in the tank...mind you it was vapors after blowing air into the tank for an hour.....exploded in my uncles face. He had welders gloves, face shield and that leather thing you wear over your shoulders or he would have been seriously hurt.

This does not sound like something I would try and I'll try almost anything once!

Just found an ebay listing for a super 1050E.

You gotta read the description.

"The 1050E will answer to a host of elegant epithets: it is at once elemental, electric, enchanting, and embarrassing. It is elevated and enamored by Homelite esthetes yet considered egregious and excremental by their enraged neighbors. The emissions and earpain it engenders will enthrall you but will also engage encephalopathy. ENOUGH!"
