Unless I can find a good paint match to Homelite blue in a rattle can, I'm going to paint this XL-101 John Deere Yellow and satin black.

Make it resemble a Mac.:crazy1:

Dupli-Color Light Blue Metallic BGM0539. I just painted the red part of my two tone 150 with it and it looks like a match to me.

Apologies for not getting a pic up, but honestly I couldn't find a decent original blue part to compare the painted sample too. All that's sitting around here right now is a badly faded C-52.. all the goodies are up at the farm. Anyway, it does seem the Duplicolor Maui Blue may be a hair darker than the original. I compared some of the inside parts of the C that shouldn't be too faded, and they still seem a little lighter than the Maui Blue.

'67 Marina blue is darker by a couple shades. I have a large size paint 'chip' in the garage.

If it wasn't for the blue green (retch, barff) plastic coated wrap handle I think yellow/black would look spiffy.

I think the Homelites were darker also, when they were twenty five years newer. Metallic colors tend to fade quite a bit.

Hey fellers
Got a few Homelite parts the other day and need to ID them.
#A-59490 Elbow .....Best I can tell this is for a C-72
#A-58259 Gear & Drum ......?
#A-12336 Oil Plunger .......?
#52379 Piston & Rod Kit .......?
Several Windsor Sprockets w/bearing for Homelites & a few other pistons that I think are for Homelites

Thanks bud.

I've been to Ace and Tractor supply but we have Menards, Lowes and Porters to look at also.

Just thought I'd mention it: These paints are not gasoline resistant as you probably already know. On something like this where gas might be spilled I generally use a coat of PPG Quik Clear on top of it. It seems to be fuel proof, but I imagine that would make it appear darker also, and I doubt you could find it in a rattle can since it is a two part paint.

Need some help guys

Have been offered a Homelite 550, looks to be complete & in not too bad condition. It is less bar & chain. The guy is asking 10 euro`s [ $ 16] my question are these saws worth getting up together, are there any pitfalls like parts NOA & would it be worth the time & effort. All Info gratefully received thanks.

For $16.00 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The carb boot is the only pitfall that I'm aware of, and the saw is really heavy by todays standards, but parts should be easy (maybe with a some effort & patience) to find.

I don't know about your state but here we have a lot of yard sales and auctions where the old saws can be had for very little. A nice place to find something like that would be a yard sale at a farm, they generally have old saws around, doesn't hurt to ask either. Some people stash them in a barn and just forget about them. Older small engine shops might have one also, especially if they take trades.

Great suggestions.........I'm going to start poking around more at the older small engine shops and yard sales. I'm hopeful something such as a XL-925 or a 550 will show up!! :msp_thumbsup:

Dupli-Color Light Blue Metallic BGM0539 is way darker than Marina blue. More like Nassau blue.

At least the tank and carb box/ handle is painted so now I can reassemble the engine.

Smelled a lot like acrylic lacquer but I clear coated it anyway.

You'd probably be more likely to find a 360 or a 330, I see them all the time around here. I'm not a big fan of those unless it's really cheap, then I'd probably buy most anything. I managed to pick up a couple more Homelites this afternoon, an XL101 and a Super EZ, both in above average condition. I'll know more about them in a couple of days, all I've done so far is give them a little cleaning.

I bought a 360 recently on Ebay, supposedly was blown up, but it had a nice bar and chain that I wanted to run on my 450. So I checked the saw out and compression was fine. Did a little poking around on it and sure enough the only problem was the intake boot. So I replaced the boot and she is a nice little runner. Love when I get more than I paid for off Ebay!!!!

You'll be glad you clear coated it if you ever spill fuel on it. I don't know about the clear in the rattle can, I always use a small touch-up gun and mix the clear coat with hardener. You can pour gas on it and the paint doesn't seem to come off.

Thanks man,

So I wanted to take some pics of the lineup. I was going to take some vids, but as soon as I got all set up the sky opened up and it started downpouring..... oh well another time.

Anyway, I took a couple shots in the garage. A few of these saws I picked up from Wildman1024. Thanks bud.

Top to bottom, the 360 as mentioned. Starts on first pull even when cold. My 450 with a 550 carb in it, so it has the adjustable H jet. My 550 near mint saw with a sweet Sugihara bar and a full wrap handle. And finally, the 750, full wrap handle. All saws run great, and are fully capable of getting put to work as is.

Here are my older Homeys, top to bottom.

A 1020, full wrap handle, rare automatic oiler clutch cover, sweet Cannon roller nose bar. A Super XL 922, full wrap. An XL923, near mint, roller nose. And last is a nice Super EZ with the rare full wrap handlebar. Again, all are great runners!!!
