Hey all.

Just in the process of putting my XL Automatic back together. Had to pull it all apart to get the oil tank off. Seems to have a leak somewhere. also putting some new rings in while its open. The piston and cylinder walls are like new, considering the age of the saw, and I can tell it has never been apart before. Oh and I did some porting, and some polishing while I have it apart :).

Anyway do any of you know what sort of torque to put on the conecting rod bolts? (bearing cap)

Just ran into some info. Looks like 55 inch lbs is the con-rod torque value. Have a good one. Goball

XL-101 magneto backplate.

Hole in crankcase/fuel tank (all one casting!!!) was wallowed too far for a Helicoil. Had to drill and tap an inch deep 1/4-20 to get some meat for threads. Yikes!

I counter sunk the backplate some but may have to sink it more so the flat head screw head will clear the flywheel.

From what I have read the later 101's used five screws. Must have been a problem with warrenty work at Homelite.:msp_ohmy:

:D +1.

The VI versions (944, 955) are kinda rare. $50.00 is a good price if the P/C are fine.

Supposedly it is all good. I am going out on a bit of a limb and getting it with a couple other saws. Will know for sure in the next couple of hours if it is going to work out.

The 944 interested me as I had not seen one. Hopefully it will be all good or I could be just buying some scrap metal since I cannot see them in person. A friend is picking them up for me.

Rings and piston should be replaced but I'm having trouble finding replacments. Any ideas? Raining here - bout Cowtown? Goball :bang:

My piston is in near perfect condition, one ring was broken. I orderd rings and a carb kit from chainsawr

good on delivery, and prices. Although I am delayed quite a bit due to Canada Post. I would have it all back together now if it were not for them. Cant wait to fire it up and see how the porting worked out.

Where did you find the torque value

BTDT. Usually works out OK...

Speaking of Homelite's, Aaron is working on a 750 for us, and hopefully it will be back on the road! y buddy Parmeter's dad fell some mighty big Redwood with it.

Yep. At this very moment, that 750 powerhead is on the "Big Dog" shelf next to my Homelite 900D. Same displacement. A decade or so apart. The other saws in the shop are thankful they're not on THAT shelf...:D

Here's one I've been playing with, seems to run pretty good.

If it all works out my friend is to pick them up from the guy that is selling them.

I say them as it will be the 944, 330 and a EZ automatic (not sure if a super).

Model Profile: VI-944

I see they can be spec'd with a 36" bar. They must have some pretty good snort for that.

Thnks for the picture

This one just has a 20" bar. Don't have much use around here for anything bigger except maybe to scare the neighbor kids....

Homelite "C-32" chain saw - What is it!???

Got a guy that wants to trade me a chain saw for something I've got. Here is how he described it;
"It is a homelite direct drive C-32 it was in working order when put away has real good compression. It has a 24" bar "
. He sez that he cut down redwood trees with it in yesteryear and that it's a great vintage saw. I ask him again about it over the phone and said the "C-32" designation is on the side of the saw.

I double checked three times all the Homelite listings at 'Collector Chain Saw Corner' and didn't find a single reference to a "C-32" saw. Attempted to do a 'search' function of this thread and that fun-ction is either not working or nobody has mentioned anything about a "C-32" in this thread.

Anybody have any intel on a Homelite C-32 saw?? C.C.'s and pictures would be helpful!! Thanks in advance!!

My friend did pick them up last night so on the fourth they will bring them up to me. 944,330 and auto EZ for $125. I am a little nervous getting that far into them. I really did not want the others but it seemed like a fair price and I can use the other for trading or sell them if I decide.

The 944 has a 24-25" bar on it supposedly. They were put away running so I hope they should be all good but one never knows without having them in hand:msp_sad: Supposedly one owner saws.

I bet it's a C-52. That saw would certainly say "Direct Drive" on the clutch cover. 77cc. Smallest displacement of the C-Series saws. Heavy, loud, TOUGH, lots of torque, and super easy to work on. The C-5 in my avatar pic is an older version of that same saw.

You're doing fine there Shane. If the P/C's are good, then the 944 and E-Z are certainly worth that money. I'm not a fan of the 330, but it's a decent saw. Makes a good loaner............or trade/sell it. Some guys like 'em. You can use the bar from it on the E-Z. Same mount (same as small Husky too).
