I bet it's a C-52. That saw would certainly say "Direct Drive" on the clutch cover. 77cc. Smallest displacement of the C-Series saws. Heavy, loud, TOUGH, lots of torque, and super easy to work on. The C-5 in my avatar pic is an older version of that same saw.

Thanks for your take on it.........I'll be interested in finding out just what it is........probably in a day or two. I would just like to have a biggger(70 c.c.+) all metal/mag saw......starting to look around.........any suggestions!?? I liked what one person said about his Homelite XL-925 and another person was saying positive things about his McCulloch 250 and how it had a sound unlike most other saws.

Suggestions? Just keep an eye on your local Craigslist. Search for Homelite, McCulloch, Chainsaw, and Chain Saw. Good things will come your way. Be patient, and don't pay a bundle for crap. Something good will come along.....like if that saw you were talking about turns out to be a C52...:D

I don't know about your state but here we have a lot of yard sales and auctions where the old saws can be had for very little. A nice place to find something like that would be a yard sale at a farm, they generally have old saws around, doesn't hurt to ask either. Some people stash them in a barn and just forget about them. Older small engine shops might have one also, especially if they take trades.

Hey Aaron!!!

Nice little red saw.

That made my day Randy! Thanks for hauling those home and posting the pics. Thanks also to the generous folks that passed them to you for me. The XL-15 is a good match for my blue/white XL-12 ( also from Bob). That NOS bar will be sweet on my XL903. That's good motivation to get it back together.

Nice! I love the old bar's too, with the big bold Homelit letter's, some have that chrome like look, and shine. Got a neat look.:D

Nice red saw Aaron. I never had or ran a XL-15.
I did like the SXL's, Nice bar too.

Thanks Cliff. I'm quite excited about both of 'em. Never thought I'd see an XL-15 "in person"......let alone own one.....since so few were made/sold. It'll be the lowest SN XL-12 family saw in my collection. I have a blue/white XL-12 that was a birthday gift from my lovely wife. That saw was bought from Bob on ebay before I knew him here! Bob swapped in a P/C from a later SXL, so it's now 58cc. Manual oiler and single reed. This XL-15 will look good next to it.

I'm not quite sure what Homelite's reasoning was for the XL-15 model designation. Seems to just be an early XL-12 that's red instead of blue. Still is manual oiler only, and doesn't seem to have any 'special' features. One more thing I'd like to ask an old-time Homelite insider...:D

Looks like it won't take much for me to get that saw going. Do I spy mud-dauber gunk in the muffler stack? Those little stinkers love getting into saws. I took three large mud dauber nests out of the McCulloch 77 I sent to Mark H. One was inside the muffler. Thankfully they didn't go into the cylinder. The other two were in the flywheel cover. I see "PACKARD" on the plug wire. Wonder if that was 'liberated' from an old Packard automobile. I'll try to save that with a new cap.:D

Recently grabbed a can of Duplicolor Medium Maui Blue Mica. I only sprayed a small sample and its pretty darn close. Have a few blue saws I'm planning to use it on. I'm doing the whole saws, so ain't too worried about a perfect match.

Thanks bud.

I've been to Ace and Tractor supply but we have Menards, Lowes and Porters to look at also.

The autozone and Advance auto parts stores in town didn't have it. I ended up finding a can at Pep Boys. All of 'em show it on their webistes though, so any probably can get the color. I'll try to get around to posting a pic later today.
