This is the ignition

FWIW:
The blue lead on the condenser is the same as the Wico mag on my 800.

True that many 7/8/9s used points, but 925s proper all either had a 3 piece or single piece electronic ignition. Homelite sure made this a confusing line to figure out parts interchange, just like the XL-1xx with all the different variations. What was it, like the 850 that had even another oddball electronic ignition setup with a special trigger molded onto the cover plate with the crank bearing and mounted a coil.

I think it was the 850 with the goofy "transistorized breakerless ignition" that you mentioned. Good luck finding parts for that one.....:censored:

homelite 330

i started tearing my 330 down so i could perform cleanup and replace fuel and oil lines and the carb boot. almost got it torn down but can't get it apart. the crankcase/cylinder seems to rotate about the upper engine mount up inside the engine housing. i took the oil pump off-no impact. does the flywheel have to come off? wondering what i'm missing? i've tried muscle to a low level extent. could the upper engine mount just be "frozen" in place and require some blunt force with a rubber mallet? i know its got to be one of those "duh" things but as far as i can see i've taken all the necessary bolts out. course i can also stand in front of a refrigerator looking for something that could bite me if it was a snake.
also, looking at the IPL i'm not seeing a gasket between the crankcase halfs for when i replace the rings. am i missing that too?
all help and suggestions appreciated.
thanks, jerry

Jerry, when I took mine apart I don't remember taking the flywheel off. There's a write up on that boot replacement, step by step, and I think it may be on here somewhere. If not just google it and you'll find it. That's a difficult repair but I did it on my first try so it can't be that bad. You still may have a bolt in one of the mounts, it would flex some but not come off. There's a website that has the write up but the last time I mentioned it someone really got onto me about it so I don't mention it anymore.

thanks for the hint on the writeup. i found it, good stuff. good to see i'm not the only one that has trouble getting the engine housing off. question still remains regarding that. do i tilt the housing to the front or to the rear when trying to remove it. do i force it over the fuel tank? seems like a major fau paux in the design of this little beast. i always say that engineers should have to work on what they design. just sayin

Looks like they lifted it up and then to the left to get it past the gas fill neck. You may have to push in the neck opening to get it to clear. I don't remember having any trouble with that part of it, just lucky I guess. Seems like the hardest thing I had was putting the top bar back on..mine may have been bent slightly but I had to practically bend it to get it back on.

Think I remember some older posts where it was stated that even mentioning links in PMs was being monitored and possible grounds for punishment. Again, I may very well be wrong, but please use caution.

what is the general thoughts on a "350 professional". i picked on up a while back and i'm tired of triping over it. it looks like it won't need much to get it going. is it worth fixing? thanks guys

okay, got it apart. after double and triple checking the IPL i went ahead and muscled that thing apart. now to get it cleaned and put back together.

I gave ya the same advice in the Sure is quite thread.. dont know if ya seen it or not?
I hate them 330's though gutless tanks.

Anyone know if a 330/360 boot will fit on a 550?
