Been working on this 775G. Had to replace the cylinder (peeled chrome) and a badly corroded crankcase. Caught hell finding the right case due to all the running changes made by Homelite. Finally got it right on the 3rd try. This is how far I got today installing a new piston, rings, and seals. The crank bearing was in good shape so I didn't replace it.

All that's left is to repair a couple bad threads and get the carby in order.

That is a beaute Clark. I especially like the big boy west coast felling spike. Makes me want to tear into my 707g and 1100xp. What bar do you plan on running? I think it shoud be able to handle a 42" without much trouble.

Who's Clark? No more beer for you.

Seriously, I have a nice 30" to put on it. Doesn't much matter. I just want a good runner. Been sitting on this project for far too long.

From Christmas Vacation when Clark Griswald plugs in his christmas lights. Guess you had to see the movie

Actually that did pop to mind, but I didn't think you were making that awesome of a reference. You are, of course, quoting Cousin Ed.

Those spikes are meant for the Model 17 and other early versions. I had to notch the side to fit around the bar stud flange.

Ran my xl76 today

I finally had a chance to run my XL76 today and it was great. I also had an Echo cs520 and a Efco cs56 both much more modern saws and I was surprised at how well the 76 compared to the newer saws. Although there is no chain brake the weight was very close. I didn't run them long enough for the lack of anti-vibe to bother me at all, but that is my type of cutting requirement. If I had to I could be very happy with the 76 if that's the only saw I could afford.

For every day use i think I would opt for the Efco very nice unit which I picked up for $25.00. Am I evil or what!:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Thanks Aaron. I am sure she will. Looks like it needs the points cleaned and re gaped. All ready cleaned the carb. Will throw spark but when you spray gas threw the carb it will on fire when it wants. Has good compression also. Piston looks perfect.

Cool! Clean and gap the points. Make sure the condensor can is grounded well, and inspect the condensor and points wires for chafing/shorts. Also clean the back of the kill switch. Sometimes mung at the back of the switch will be conductive and ground the terminal to the switch body.

The switches also fail too. Just replaced a bum switch on an XL-15 a few days ago. It would run fine.............then stutter............and then run fine until shutdown. Would refuse to fire.................then would suddenly start working again and run fine. Intermittent electrical failures are maddening....

After you check the on-off switch for failure, don't forget to check the plug wire to coil connection before you give up on the coil.

Thanks Tim,

It was the switch, disconnected and away it went. Hence my latest reply re running it over the week. When I get achance I'll give the switch a good cleaning and try again.

Nice saw Chris, Been wanting one for awhile.
Every 770 or 775 geardrive i find has a bad
top end. Oh well my bad luck.

Got a 770G as well. This 775 had a bad cylinder, lots of missing plating. Found a junker 775 and stole stuff off of it. I used a larger bore carb that I found, but it seems touchier to adjust.

I've been debating replacing the 2.86:1 gears with a 3.57:1 set that I have.

Great job Chris. Really liking the 'claw hammer' H&S redwood spikes. :msp_thumbup:

I have another set on a Mac and forgot they tend to dig holes when you leave the saw idling on the ground. Not hard to understand why people hack the bottom spikes off. I have several other H&S sets modified this way.

Super EZ spur drum.

What is a good Oregon number for a spur sprocket drum for a Super EZ? Six or seven tooth don't matter to me.

Got an evilbay runner but the spur has torn loose from the drum.

Must have been a poor furnace braze.

Carl.
