..... but a better saw than a ms 361.
Clearance is the only person I have seen make such a statement about 036/360 vs. 361, and this it at least the second time.
Everyone is entitled to have his own opinion, but I don't think many will agree with him.......

my 036 was an excellent saw. the oiler seemed a bit inadequate but its really made as a pulpwood type saw.. but mine cut full bar hjardwood plenty strong. just had to wait on the oiler ,when in heavy hardwood cut. no big problem.. if i had one it would get modified .excellent saw made even better .

The 036 in my camp is a fine saw, and I also think the oiler is a bit lean. The adjuster screw is turned to max output, but the bar is drier than I'd like. I recently bought a modified Efco 962 that runs circles around the stock 036. Maybe the 036 could use some magic.

Something about the eight toothed drive hub kind of bugged me so I went out to the shop to look and this saw is running .325 chain. Wouldn't this normally have 3/8ths on it?
John.......

They usually come with a 7 tooth drive sprocket. I just bought an 8 tooth for mine....and there it sits on the work bench...waiting to be put on. They do normally come with 3/8 but maybe he had it switched over to the 325???

Actually a .325 pitch being a bit smaller gives you an advantage power wise over the 3/8'' and cuts a bit faster.

325

The first 036s from the distibutor came with .325 chain, then switched to 3/8 chain in later production. Just a supply thing I guess.
Either chain, WHEN SHARP, cuts just fine.

turbo i think i know the 962 u got. shes a real good piece aiont she. i was impressed a lot with it. and yres it will run circles around an 036. modified that is. i never modidfied my 036 so cant say if they would be equeal if both modified.

hey all, for a long time my main saw was an 036 Pro, first thing i do on the 036 is toss the clutch drum, get an 044 clutch AND the 044 bearing, that way you get a bearing that is around 3 times larger and just lasts longer. i run a 24" bar and stihl rapid super full skip 3/8x.050 chain. i mainly cut alder and the usual northwest evergreens.. i have used the crap out of that 036 pro and have not had any problems. has allways been one of my most reliable saws. its about 7 years old and still has not even had a carb kit in it.
