ya it's me again with these silly questions, well i have boiled it down to the husky 394xp or a stihl 066 as my next saw to purchase, i just want to know which is the better choice, the known problem(s) with each saw, reliability, etc.... i just want to hear from people who own these saws or had expeiriance with them so i don't make the wrong choice.
thanks ,sniper

PAIN IS TEMPORARY PRIDE IS FOREVER:D

That is a legitimate question, sniper.

To put it into terms you'd be very familiar with, the 066M is like the Ma Deuce of saws. Tough, proven, hits hard (and heavy :D ).

If you are matching it properly to your task, it will serve you well.

...And if you haven't covered your bases in the 70cc category of saws, search the board for 372XP vs. 044M/MS 440M.

I find that displacement & weight (+- 14 lb powerhead) to be a must-have, and use it much more than the 066.

ya i have been looking into the 066 more than the 394xp but am unsure which to get, i have been looking on ebay for a used saw and moneywise they seem to be equal in the auctions, i know your going to say buy new from a dealer but you can save so much money buying a used saw and i do know how to work on saw, cars or just about anything with an engine so this is why i am steering towards a used saw if it needs a little work i'll fix it.
my only problem is that the closest stihl dealer near me is about 30miles away and i have a husky dealy only about 10 miles down the road so parts availability and how far to travel is a big factor for me as well

I have the same problem, only in reverse. I WISH I could check out some high end Huskys! :(

Right. Service (and parts if you're turning wrenches yourself) are important considerations. Obviously got to weigh out your priorities. One downside to having no local Stihl support - no one seems to want to ship you the parts.
If you do the Husky XP saw thing, you're going to get one of the best saws in the world anyway, so you're not going to go wrong if you buy new . But be very careful buying used saws on ebay though!

I love the 372 and 346 as well as many Stihls, but there may be merit to the claim that Stihls may go a few more miles and command better resale.

weight really isn't a problem for me, i'm 6'1" and weight 220 lbs,
got big and strong from carrying around those heavy mccullochs all those years lol.

ya i could do that but i'm sure that saw would be more than what i would need it for, hell the 394xp or 066 will be enough for me, but it would be cool to have the 3120 just for bragin rights for having the biggest husky, lol

The 066 is one of the best saws ever made by anybody. You can't go wrong with it. I used a friend's 3120 Husky. Very heavy saw and did not cut any faster than my 084. Driving an extra 20 miles to get some parts is nothing. You will seldom be making that drive unless you dropped or abused the saw. I bought two used saws off Ebay. My Walkerized 066 and a made in Germany 039. Both were very good deals and run extremely strong. I am happy with both. I got the 066 for $405 and the 039 for $195.

the 066 or now 660 is the better saw , if you treat it right you donot have to worry about the drive because not much breaks on them but make sure you put a dual port muffler on it if it does not have one, night an day difference
for some reason 066's like me and they cut like hell for me also so that is why the 066 is my favourite saw to cut in the bush with

I would choose the 066 in this case. I have one and love it. I've modded the muffler and with a 20" bar you can't slow it down. It will pull a 36" bar rather respectfully.........but not as good as the 088KD.:D

Well, let's even the odds:

I'm much happier with my 394 than I was with my 066.

lol, i will most likely buy another husky but i just wanted some opinions on both, the main reason that i will probablly get the husky is because i have a dealer only about 10 miles doen the road.
