two weeks ago my husband bought me a Husky 137....i loved that little saw....but then today he told me that we would be better to get a stihl, so today we went to a stihl/husky dealer and traded the Husky 137 in for a MS210....i tried the MS210 tonight when i got home and i really liked it....i noticed it had less vibration, cut smoother, the only thing is...it doesn't cut as fast...i am wondering if that is because it has a safety chain on it...anyway, it is an awesome saw for a little girl like me...thanks hubby!!!!

STIHLSamantha, Congratulations on the new saw.
After a few tanks of fuel, and broke-in it will make
more power.

Congrats on new saw, new saws are always a good thing.:blob2: Sounds like you've got that dreaded Stihl safety chain. Is it marked with a dab of lime green paint on the connector link? Also, are the side straps opposite the rakers mulit-humped, like a camel's back? Those are two sure signs of safety chain.

You wouldn't be Cisco's better half would ya? Seems like he recently mentioned picking up a new Husky for wifey but wanted to get a Stihl. Plus it sounds like ya both have an effinity for cuttin' wood....... I could be wrong, don't want to assume. You know what they say 'bout that word. If yes, sounds like he made good on his original intentions. Looks like you've got a keeper there, hubby that goes outta his way to keep his wife happy. Just wish mine was as into diesel and two-stroke smoke as I..... would sure make gift selection easier. I was thinkin' a 361 and a 3pt skidding winch would be ssuuwweeeeet under the xmass tree.

STIHLSamantha, I have a Stihl 021. I used to run a 16 inch bar and PM1 chain on it. I switched to 14 inch bar and PM1 chain it definitely cut faster with the shorter bar and chain. Then I switched chains and went with a PM chain instead. Going from the 16 bar and PM1 chain to the 14 inch bar and PM chain it takes about 2/3 the time to cut then it used to. I couldn't believe the difference! I'd run a 14 inch bar and chain on your saw. Good luck!

Ugh

you punks, lmfao... Yea, it's a much better built saw than the Husky. I lost like $60 during the trade, but oh well, I'll know better next time eh? I was pretty happy with Parkside down in Wilmington, NY. Nice folks there, very knowledgeable, just all in all nice people. More than I can say for Taylor Rental in Plattsburgh. Good lord, buy something from them and they forget you were there a week later. Piss on that service. I'll drive the extra 10 min. to get good service for sure.

quick question

haha, yeah cisco is my dude....thanks for all of the support and good wishes everyone!! Don't hurt his ego too much by giving me more points...heehee You are right about the chain though...bogs down a bit, but still it cuts smoother than the Husky....going to head out today and use it for a bit to break it in more....maybe once there is a normal chain on it, it will cut even better....for right now till i get used to it the safety chain is alright....a quick question though....the stihl dealer at the store we got the saw from said to mix the oil 50 to 1....cisco and i always mix it around 40 to 1...is that too rich for the saw? The guy said that it would clog the filter and ruin the saw in a week....in the older stihls it seems to lubricate them better and no problems...but what about these newer models? thanks!

Lets see if your north of Wilmington and Plattsburg is 10 minutes closer that puts you in never never land. Well we're on the some side of the Adirondacks at least. If any of you Dac people got any tree trunks to use as a good bridge deck PM me. Adkranger good investigative skills. Good to hear about a AS union. :biggrinbounce2:  I will take you up on that offer some day from over on the shed thread, cisco.

StihlSam, I don't mess around with different mixes or screw around with blends. I buy the premeasured Stihl premium mix oil for 50:1, ALWAYS fill/mix on an empty can(in other words I do not mix over old mix in can) and run all my saws regardless of vintage on it(Stihls, Huskys and a Mac). From what I've been told by several Techs(not just Stihl) the newer oils' advancements in lubrication properties more than make up for the 10:1 difference(between 40:1 to 50:1 saws, even my 32:1 Mac). Have a couple old Lambs that will probably never go leaner than their recommended 16:1, they're old, they're still dad's and both, I think, are set in their ways. Besides they're more for posterity now as I cannot source chain for them anymore without converting things.

If you've been advised differently, they/you may be right, the above is JMO based on some minor investigation. Maybe Lakeside or another Stihl tech guy will pipe in with a more informed recommendation on mix ratios. Either way I wouldn't run that new saw on 40:1, don't know 'bout cloggin' filters, but you're sure to foul your plug quicker and probably carbon up spark arrestor screen (maybe this was the "filter" he was referring to)in muffler faster leading to poor performance. With 40:1 you are not talking about imediate degradation, but when your saw starts running like crap and you've got wood to cut.......

Just stay at 50:1, 89 or premium gas.. 40:1 won't ruin the saw, but it will tend to block the muffler screen easier on the 210.

As for chains, you might be able to get (being released slowly across the USA) the newer PMC3 - safety with decent cut perfomance. PMC is now the "non-saftey" chain.

well i leave the mixing to my husband....he knows what he is doing whereas i am still always learning...i just thought it was weird how the man at the store insisted on 50 to 1 when my husband notices that the saws run better at a more richer mixture....i let dude take care of that..but i was just curious as to why there was such a big deal...thanks for the input guys...happy cutting

Why are both of you pictured in your Avatar and dude's alone in his?

That's simply UNFAIR!!! (to us...:hmm3grin2orange:)

I hit you w/ rep when you joined but we'll just say it was subliminally preemptive...

The only PM chain I've used has been on a pole pruner and it seemed to cut quite well - it was green chain.

sounds like she needs a 346xp:rockn:

That's what I thought also. However, she felt uncomfortable with it. She said she thought it'd be a little too big for her. She wanted to stay in the 2hpish range. I even thought the 250 and the 290 would be ok, she said NO, she wanted the little 210, she likes around 2-2.5 hp dude. Hell, I'da gotten her a 353 if she wanted. We don't need her doing anything more than cutting small stuff and limbing a few trees so why get her something she doesn't want eh?
