boy we have some interesting discussions going on here!!!! In reply to SawWitches question about as to why i use the smaller saws...i only cut trees with no more than a 16 inch diameter on the butt end....i do a lot of limbing too, but i try to stick to the smaller stuff, because like i say, the bigger stuff makes me nervous...maybe when i grow up (cuz i am only 5 feet 1 inch and 120lbs) i can handle a bigger saw with more balance and ease....with the bigger saws i feel like i handle them too close to my body to balance them, and one wrong slip and i could more easily cut myself than with the smaller ones which i can hold farther away. I am sure my husband would love it if i could wield a larger saw, and sometimes i will grab an 041 Stihl but not as often....he supports me in my decision...i think he'd rather have a wife that cuts with a MS210 with all limbs than one that can't cut and without some extremity or two...heehee...anyway, this weekend is sure to be a cutting fest, because some people in the area have expressed an interest for some wood....more quality time with my dude....hope that answered your question though....guess you could say i am a little "Chikn" with the bigger saws...haha

Hi, Samantha, thank you for your streight-forward answer.

The cutting I do is mostly bucking.

I am not a big and strong woman myself, but I feel that I get a closer relationship to the saw when it is a bit heavier and stronger.

Also I feel that it is easier to keep focus, and not loose consentration with the stronger saw.
I am also very concious about were the tip of the bar is, which is easier when it is close to me. :greenchainsaw:

You should of course avoid cutting in the direction of your body or too close to it - also try to keep the body out of the most likely kick-back path.

This is of course just an opinion.....:biggrinbounce2:

second that, its probaply the biggest mistake starters do, hold their saws too far away from body...

Unfortunately in the real work you have to now and then. The thing to remember is to tie the ladder to the tree, and not to part you are cutting off :) It can be done safely, but like anything else, you head has to be around the problem.

As Far as me beating you at sawwitches points well "Pure Luck" Bro.

My most used limbing saw this year has been the MS361 with 3/8x8 sprocket and 15" bar - that's a real limbing saw.....:biggrinbounce2: :blob2: :blob2:
You are right I was on my way to work yesterday and it dawned on me that I should have said (Pruning) instead of (Limbing)

Hi Samantha,
Don't think I am Picking on you, Your fear for using a bigger saw should be the same fear for using the smaller one.
To many people get over confident with smaller saws because they think they can over power them.
Taking along time through cuts tends to make some people look around instead of look at what they are doing.
You say your 5'1" and 120#. you have some mass to you. "muscle weighing more than Fat"
Do the limbing with your saw and cut a few rounds with your Husbands saw
Sounds like you have a good coach.

It's best not to extend your arm while cutting belive it or not your on the right track. stay focused and use a firm grip.

I love small saws up a tree, up a ladder, fruit tree pruning, small firewood...

Me too. A small saw is a must if you have small trees or you need a lot of trimming. And I admit, I have used it several times in a tree or upon a ladder, althought it's against common safety rules. That't the big advantage of a small saw ; you can still master it in akward positions, something I would never try with a bigger saw.
IMO, operating a smaller saw is always safer than a big one, it wears you out much less and fatigue remains a major cause for accidents.
just my 02 cts.

Well Ultra and others, I am very happy here at AS.
I have allways felt better among men at work and in other situations, than among women - that is one of the reasons I am here, after the Troll introduced me to it.
I have mostly worked among men, and I really feel at home here, among you guys....;) :biggrinbounce2:

Of course a lot of women is nice also, but if there are to many of them at one place - you know.....:blob2: :blob2:
