I've searched pretty good and I couldn't find anything else in writing. We've been dealing with Husqvarna for a long time, and under current service policies we've never had a warranty refused under the following terms:
If you purchase a Husqvarna, pro model or not, under a business name your warranty is 90 days. If you buy a Husqvarna, pro model or not, under a personal name your warranty is 2 years. Any saw purchased after 01-01-95 under any name has a lifetime warranty on the ignition. For any warranty you must provide original proof of purchase.
We do a few K a month in warranty parts and labor. I'm sure we're not the largest but, we do our share. I guess if you need more info give that toll free number on that word document in my previous post.

I sure seems like Stihl, Husky, Dolmar, etc. would have to honor the 2 year transferable warranty on the emissions stuff regardless their stated/in-use policies otherwise. In any event, I don't foresee needing to act on any of it in any fashion with my saws.

This has been fun.

Thanks, Wayne. Looking it all over leaves me somewhat more confused than I thought I was, though...

This is a followup/summary concerning Stihl's way of providing the information.

Stihl provides a printed general-warranty/proof-of-purchase document with the saw. They also specify that warranty prominently in their catalog and on their web site. The various terms are plainly set forth.

In their manuals (at least the ones I have, ©2000) there are two pages covering the Federal Emission Control Warranty, which reads quite similarly to the previously attached and quoted Husky version. It clearly states the warranty covers every buyer in the chain throughout the 2 year period (is transferable). It's somewhat clearer in its overall language, in my opinion, and explicitly states what's being covered thus:
The following list specifically defines the emission-related warranted parts:
Carburetor
Choke (Cold start enrichment system)
Intake manifold
Air filter
Spark plug
Magneto or electronic ignition system (ignition module)
Catalytic converter (if applicable)
Fasteners

(The list is later limited by excluding the routine parts/services after their first scheduled time.)

It's easy to see with them, as compared to Husky at any rate (am unfamiliar with Dolmar's system), that there are two separate, variously concurrent warranties in place (one of which certainly causes an undue price increase!).

The "it" I "looked all over" and felt somewhat confused by was this thread!

Paul,

Looks like they listened.

Glen, Most cool. I just read the press release, seems the guide bar is somehow special to the depth limiter. The saw already comes with an oddball bar 20" 3/8 .063 I hope they take them back for credit.

Not for a firesaw. THe Stihl chain has 2 plates supporting the carbide, silver soldered together. Firesaw chain has a habit of snapping the carbide off in impact, this stuff should be tougher. There are fire companies that will not buy a saw withiut without a depth stop.

So, I guess they are made like the Raptor chains found on the Ventmaster saws, only in 3/8 pitch instead of .404.

Have you looked at the bullet chain from Cutters Edge? It is more like a semichisel tooth that is less dependent on a leading edge for continued cutting ability, with a depth gauge that follows the contour of the tooth as well as a backing for the whole tooth and not just the edges.

And you're right, some Departments won't do without the depth stop. I just don't feel it's necessary and is excess baggage.
