I sell on craigs list, basicly saws and tools. I always list my phone number have never really had any problems. I also use their map feature which list my exact location. I realize there are wackos out there and maybe I've been lucky but I've never really had any problems. I do get on some spam call list periodiclly but thats life. Another thing I have found out, most people looking for tools and equipment don't haggle over prices, if they need it and want it, they buy it. I get very few tire kickers. i have over 8 saws on craigs list at the present along with excersize equipment and building material. I also use a tag line; cash is king and thats all we take.

If that is your experience that's fine, but I have yet to encounter a buyer who does not try and haggle with a price, however low it may be.

Yes, even if you're only asking for $15 they will offer $10... just the way it is. As for calls, sometimes they would come in at all hours of the night with their numbers always blocked.

If the buyer is serious, they can ask for the number or provide theirs. Providing it upfront only leads to unwanted solicitations, and there are no shortage of those nowadays.

Or, HOT!

Fell off the delivery truck,................................. yeah,.................................................................... right.

Over 350 brand new saws have been stolen in Michigan in a short period of time. In the State of Michigan the law states that if you are buying something that is priced below half of its real value, it is automatically presumed stolen.

When buying saws ALWAYS....ask for ID, fill out a Bill of Sale and get a license plate # of the person your buying from.

If a seller refuses to follow this procedure do not buy from him and contact the police with any information you do have.

There is something "special" happening in Michigan. People have stolen vehicles just to commit robberies involving chainsaws. You buy a stolen saw, your no better than the scumbags who stole it.

I've heard nothing about this going on in Michigan, they will rob, kill for,and steal everything else but i haven't heard chain saws.

Your State police have several occurrences. Supposedly there is a huge investigation, complete with informants and interstate trafficking. I suspect that there will be a Ricoh case building. 350 saws is alot of money.

One instance of a couple bad dudes stealing a Pickup truck and robbing a lawn and garden store. New saws in Boxes. I saw the little bits in the news through Google searches.

Follow my advice and don't be stupid. Don't even think of buying a suspicious saw.

Still a good idea to get a Bill of sale with the Saws numbers and the identity of the seller. I also write the phone numbers down.

Nothing wrong with eBay or Craigslist. Doing this will only prevent you from buying a stolen saw. Any one selling a stolen saw will no way want his identity known on a slip of evidence. So you will easily avoid making any unintentional mistakes.

And as a buyer, I do not like the Michigan law. I feel it is unconstitutional. It presumes guilt based on the price of the saw. I have bought decent saws worth $300. for $50. each. Just because the seller is willing to sell the saw below its value does not automatically mean it is stolen.
