Well Chris I do believe he said he got it from a buddy. So i guess it boils down to what feels right. We all have different opinions of buddies. I see it one way and others see it another way. We can always disagree. That is why we live in the greatest country in the world no matter what some say.

Bill

Granted we don't have his buddy's side of the story, but he said they were both ignorant of the value of the saw and the information was definitely out there if any either one of them cared to look. Know what you are selling. Plus, if I were that buddy and found out after the fact what I had practically given away, I would blame only myself and move on.

Agreed! If you sell something too cheap it's your own fault. A friend of mine sold a couple of cars that, in my opinion, was way too cheap so I told him. He let me know that he knew it but he wanted to get rid of them so bad that he deliberately priced them too cheap. He's had them for years and didn't drive them and they were in the way.

I buy and sell stuff on a number of different venues (Craigslist, eBay, local online classifieds, word of mouth, etc.) My first and most basic rule is to always and completely describe everything I know about the item - good or bad. A more detailed description and more pictures increase the buyer's confidence and will result in a faster sale or more $ for the item (almost a guarantee).

(keep in mind my basic rule above) If selling at an auction, I'm fully prepared to receive much less than something is worth - and much more that it's worth too. Auctions (eBay, for example) bring out bidders that get caught up in the bidding process and forget to consider what the item is really worth. Call it competition or the gambling mentality or whatever - I've seen it a number of times.

Selling something for less that it's worth gives me a couple of very valuable results: 1) I can sell something faster (selling more things for less profit each can actually result in more overall profit over time) and 2) I feel better about selling something that may give problems to the buyer after purchase (like a complex gadget that I wasn't able to test fully). You could call this Moral Insurance. I sleep much better at night knowing I'm not slowly turning into a slimy lie-rationalizing used-car salesman. :)
