I don't understand why  someone would list a saw with no description of the condition of the actual saw, and use photos that make most folks question the condition of the saw. And according to the listing title the saw "runs great."

Dolmar PS-7900. Runs Great,A Smooth and Powerful Chainsaw. | eBay

Funny!

Look at the photos and wonder WHY they have is listed as 'Used' and not 'For parts / not working' ...

Gotta tell you though, that broken plug wire is the deal killer for me!

:ices_rofl:

.... and somebody bought it for $300.

Sad.

Can you ever use the coil from a different brand of saw? Just curious.

Isn't there an Efco lineage in the Olympik line?

Philbert

yeah oly was/is made by oleo-mac, efco. problem is that 200 series of saws with electronic ignition(251B, 251S, 252, 254, 264, etc.) have coils that aren't made any more and can hardly be found.

I think Philbert is tactfully trying to ask if there is an Efco part that could be used as a substitute for the Olympyk coil. Seems I've also seen on here notes about replacing electronic ignitions with totally different ones, unrelated to the saw at hand.

I don't think the "Greek" does chicom stuff. He has good rep for parts he sells. I have bought pistons and rings from him but no P&C kits. So I don't know on them. Message him and ask where they are made.

The listing calls it a 039 but it's got a 029 engine. Thats misleading but not really a problem for the saw (just the buyer).
The real problem is that he seems to have mixed case halves. Clutch side is old numbers 029/039, but the flywheel side has the flippy cap which makes it ms290/390. Mixing case halves= bad news. Leak mucho.

If there is I haven't heard of it. Even talked with people from Emak in Europe about it, and they see no reason to stock them anymore. At $90 list over there, there's not much point.
As far as some other one working, I've been looking, but the original is quite goofy, with four pickups instead of two or three. I do have a replacement one with three that works, but haven't found a match yet.
