I work at a private school with 80 chinese kids that pay my wages. That being said I would be nervous about buying that part. Russ

How appropriate, 300 vintage chainsaws located in Loggertown.

I'm kind of slow, anybody want to reveal the AS members name?

Maybe it has to do with the fact that the government is Communist and the people have none of the freedoms that we take for granted.

China will be the next military superpower, all built with American dollars.

1. The US, with all our freedoms, imprisons far more of it's own population than any other nation including China - and that's in total numbers not as a percentage of population. And in for-profit prisons too - those commies haven't figured that one out yet!

2. The vast majority of every product you buy was designed and manufactured there. That cow left the barn a long time ago. We even still make good, reasonably priced saws here, but most people on AS hate them - I usually lose credit just for mentioning them. How does buying parts made in some other country help?

3. Their system appears to be naked, raw capitalism now, regardless of what the name is.

4. Yes, huge changes are coming, but it's anyone's guess how it will work out.

Hard to say until someone uses one and reports on its quality. I bought one of those Blue saws from Northern Tool and the the castings are suspect and the saw only ran for about 3 cuts but as far as I can figure out, the problem with the saw is the Walbro carb. Go figure!! My bud bought one of those Chinese Honda knockoff motors from Harbor Freight to fix a tamper that we clapped out before a job was done. That was I think 6 years ago. Still on the tamper.

Don't tell some Jap or Kraut who lost his auto plant production job to some low paid American that its UnAmerican to save a few bucks here and there.

Think of this.

The emerging middle class in India is a 600 million people. One can only guess what it is in China. The North American consumer economy which once dominated the world will just be a pimple on the elephants butt.
I'm not sure where that will leave us but we need to get back to self sufficiency. It will hurt the middle class disposable income but that's where we need to be or it will be much worse. We continue to cheapen our manufactured goods to try and compete where we can't due to Asia's cheap labour, no worker protection safety laws and no environmental concerns. Every time we buy cheap Asian goods (and almost all of us are guilty of that), we erode our economy. We continue to trade with nations like Japan who place severe restrictions on our ability to do business there, yet we throw up no trade barriers to them. We let the Chinese sell us poisonous goods like their drywall, lead and cadmium tainted paint in children's toys and formaldehyde dog food yet we don't require them to post a bond to cover the expense if they screw up. The financial sector (not your friends) is afraid to do anything because of the Asian money sunk into the US.
The greed of retailers like Wal-Mart and others who bring in thousands of tons of Asian goods every day are not helping us. As much as it will hurt, we will need to learn to pay more for domestic goods to maintain some sense of independence.

My soapbox 2 cents.

I don't think we should turn this into an argument with the guys down at the gun shop, but the best thing that we Americans have going for us is the fact that a lot of us can afford to buy these Chinese goods. When we can no longer afford to do so, Those same goods will be made in Mexico, or Africa or some other part of Asia. I don't like it myself, but unfortunately for me and everyone else in my situation, I ain't got enough dough to affect polital landscape.

As someone mentioned above the changes are coming and we.re just gonna wait and see what happens.

RESPONSE:
1. Imprison -Yes. Kill - No. You seem to ignore the little matter of Mao killing an estimated forty to seventy million of his own people. He made Hitler look like a piker in comparison. The Chicoms figured out that a bullet to the head was a lot cheaper than imprisonment. What's more humane: Death or a chance to redeem yourself?

2. Manufactured - Quite a few. Designed - Rarely.

3. Naked, raw capitalism in a communist country is an impossibility regardless of what you believe and think you know.

4. Agreed, and I suspect my guess is quite a bit different than yours. I also guess that differences of opinion are what makes the world go around.

You're simply, totally wrong there. I'm a product design engineer, it's what I've been doing for 25 years. It's a very rare thing in the US anymore, you should see the reactions of the few sales reps who are still around and call on us - they're amazed that such a design and manufacturing facility is still around.

Most people have heard that the US has outsourced our manufacturing, but what few understand is that the design work went with it. Yes, the Chinese design all that computer hardware too. We do marketing and contract the design and manufacturing to large companies overseas. In the decades when we were cranking out MBAs and lawyers they were graduating huge numbers of scientists and engineers.

And here we're talking about chainsaw parts - the only technological advance in a chainsaw since electronic ignition has been strato engines. All the rest of it is old, run of the mill technology that everyone has mastered years ago, including the Chinese. Whether these particular parts are any good is another question, but it has nothing to do with capability. Generally speaking, things that seem to good to be true usually are.

I'll let the other points drop.
