That thing looks to be in fairly good shape and they are wonderful saws that are getting rarer, but in my own personal opinion that price is crazy nuts insane. Just a few weeks ago there were several 125c's selling for $400-550 in about that same shape.

Now all the sudden these suckers are going for 750-1000 dollars in cosmetically beat up shape and then theres that one on ebay with a cheap looking spray paint job for $1800. :dizzy:

I just got one, runs with fuel squirted in the carb, havent even bothered to fuel it yet, but it looks like that one pictured there, and i paid $500 for it but it came with 13 other saws.

Your saw was a deal...... market price is higher than that.

I don't think Johnnie really wants to sell it, he probably just needs a car really bad, and is "running it up the flagpole" so to speak.

Johnnie is fully aware of the market price of that saw. He has a finger on the pulse of the market, and understands it as well or better than any of us. Time and time again he posts good deals in this thread.

Please post the pics of yours. I'm fairly certain it is not in the shape Johnnie's is.

I'm just waiting for the old Homelites to catch up, got a 1050 that is much nicer than that 125....

Thats kind of what i figured too. For the record, in not mad at the guy as all, he can charge whatever he wants for his saws since this is capitalism, its just that the rising prices on certain saws as of late has me wondering how long i will be able to hang im this hobby.

Yes - prices do vary for things. The age old saying that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it is my best answer for discussions regarding a particular items value.

Chris.

when it comes to saws, if the older ones used are costing what a close equivalent new design is used (say in the 90-100 cc class), I'd take the newer one just for more parts out there, most likely lighter, etc..

I appreciate and like looking at the serious antique collectors saws and their restorations, pretty spiffy really, but that's their gig. I don't collect myself, I only accumulate tools when and if I find a deal, not into dropping serious coin just to have something that won't get used much if ever. I've slowed down a lot grabbing saws now that I have a few larger working saws. I'll still jump on a GOOD deal if I have the cash or swap when it shows up, but not really into bidding frenzy driving up the prices of antiques (any antiques), just not my bag at all. Got too many other bills and interests, and other "investments" of the boring but necessary kind, keep vehicles running, appliances that need replaced or repaired, pay for all the pets and their needs, etc. I have to put saws down around number ten to throw money at now. and even at that level I have quite the stack now, for not much coin, by limiting saw purchases to only the best of deals. I have less into all my saws combined than what I see the asking price for one or two of these big "antiques" now.

Well, here are some of the benefits of owning antique saws:

1. As long as they remain desirable, the prices will increase over time.
2. They are very inexpensive to maintain. Using 100LL gas, the saw will sit near forever on a shelf.
3. Any capital gains on them are not subject to income tax, unless you declare them.
4. They are cool.. They are fun to run.... They are impressive to look at.
5. They can come in handy at times, when your everyday runner breaks down.
6. It doesn't take a huge investment to get a small collection of nice saws together.
7. They are fairly easy to work on and fix.

I know its not a saw but this one cracked me up. I had one of these up until a few weeks ago when I threw it out and replaced it with a nice harbor freight hatchet for $3.99. When I was a kid; 1987ish, 11 years old or so I got one of these for a fundraiser award, this thing couldn't have cost more than 5bucks back then. If it is really considered "vintage" I certainly feel old. FYI drop forge doesn't Equate "Hand" forged!!

MCCULLOCH SUPER PRO 125 CHAINSAW WITH 32" BAR VERY POWERFUL 123 CCS | eBay

I saw that one and almost pulled the trigger on it.
But i just don't need anymore 125's.
I think you did good on this one. Looks pretty clean,
Just missing the muffler guard and looks like the
clutch cover was shortened.Even has the lower handle
protector which is always missing.

Congrats on a nice saw.

Seems like a solid deal. Has a Mac bar on it - nice. For some reason there are no bolts holding the muffler on, not sure what is up with that. And of course the muffler guard is missing. It has the good old style clutch cover, which is a big plus in my book. Handlebar looks a bit bent. There is a good chance that this saw has the fully adjustable carb too.

I didnt notice the missing muffler bolts at first. That kind of concerns me. Hope that its not JB welded to the exhaust port or something stupid..
