Oh, Sorry Niko.....what I meant was that the cyl and piston design of the 66E is very much like the 621 P&C.......or the 52/52E for that matter......two ring domed piston and finely crafted cyl fins close together. Made for the long haul and lots of torque but not really performance oriented. Where as the 70E has a single ring and less of a piston dome and the cyl has two less sets of fins and are spaced further apart. The 66E P&C being more "old school Jonsereds" like the 52/52E and the 621 and the 70E P&C are like a more modern saw and a bit more performance than just the difference in cc between the two. Of course the 66E and 70E saws are indistinguishable from one another to look at on the outside and look nothing like the 621....

tried the swap meet with no luck, I'm looking for a cs2139t side cover and air filter cover. please pm..thanks

Did all 590's come with the support brace that ties the front and rear handles together?

I picked up a 590, and this one did not have the brace. I seen some partner 5000's that did not have them

i just took in my father in law's 630 he said in leaned out and he shut id down. i took it all apart i would like to find a one stop shop for crank seals, o rings, fuel line, clutch shoes, air filter, and a piston. i was looking and would have to order from multiple places just prefer to order from one place. my father in law said he never even changed to spark plug, i have never seen a saw this neglected and be in relatively great shape.

If you want "One Stop Shopping" I suggest spike60......Bob is a AS sponsor and a Jonsered dealer as well.....good to do business with.....if they can be had at one place he'd be the guy!!

I have a clean little 49SP project saw that I'm going to list in the Tradin' post if anyone is looking for one.

As far as I know, all 590's came with the brace. The 490's did not. I can't say 100% for sure, but I'm 99% sure. :)
I'm basing this on all the different IPL's I've seen and pictures and my personal saws.
I have 3 590's I believe and probably 4 or 5 490's... all the 590's have the brace and none of the 490's do.
The 590 brace is different from the Partner 5000 braces. They use a different shaped starter cover, the covers will fit each other however.
The 590 brace has a section cut out to allow clearance for the starter cover as the saw torques under the av.
I do have several braces if your needing/wanting one, however I'd have to check if I have any with the cut-out for the 590.
You can always carefully cut/grind/file a 5000 brace to make it identical to a 590 brace.
You will also need the rear av mount to accept the brace, the stud is longer. There is a good chance you have the correct av mount already
Possibly the brace broke and the previous owner just removed it. I doubt he'd put a 490 av mount in it's place, but anythings possible.
I can give you the measurements of the stud to determine what av mount you have, or you can post a pic... I might be able to tell by looking at it.
Other than that, if you decide to go with the brace, the only other thing you need is a longer screw for the front which I most likely have also, or you
can order it from Poulan for a 325. I think the screw is still available, but I think the rear av mount is NLA.
There is also a lot of good info on the 590 in the Partner thread, since it's really a Partner.

Here's one of my 590's so you can see what I'm talking about.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

that's a very nice 590

My 590 is a weird saw, I believe it may have had a repair. I picked up a parts partner 5000 locally with a good closed port engine.

The front handle on the 590 had an indentation where the brace would have gone, so I assume the saw had the brace. The rear handle does not have the long stud rear a/v, and it did not have the button to lock the high idle, there is a spacer/cast spacer block off. I assume that may have been one of the reasons the saw was shelved.

I noticed my 535 has the same setup so I assume the rear handle came from a 525/535

I could definitely use a brace, I put the brace and long stud rear a/v from the partner on the 590 and it made a big difference. Amazing how hard the 590 pulls.

My partner 5000 has a 500 4 bolt starter cover, looking for a 3 bolt one, can trade covers, I also need the a/v mount near the cylinder, both a shot.

I do have parts and cash

I should have everything you need, I'm not sure about the rear av for the brace though. I'll check tomorrow.

It's a dumb superstition I have, never go in the woods without a 52e. Both the 2171 and 2153wh are ported.

Hello Lee,
The 52e is a little light on power for the bow bar, usually it has a 18" .325 bar but thought I'd try it. With that big nose radius, ie. drag, even the ported 2153 is minimum to run it. I need to find a lightweight ported 60cc saw to dedicate as the bow saw.

My first saw was a 52e and even after gradually getting newer more powerful saws I still take it with me and try to run a tank through it during the day. The 52e was more or less the "pro" version of the 49sp, electronic ignition, two ring piston, different cyl./porting are the main differences I know of. Both totally bulletproof saws and I love the mellow exhaust note of the old slower reving stuff.

Got me a low hours (near new) older Jonny Red 535 silver top. From the days when a Jred was not just a rebranded Husky. Has a pro Oregon 3/8 B&C on it. Started on the second pull. Runs and cuts good. Just thought I would share it here. These come up on Ebay and CL and they say that they are "rare." Dunno about that.

Robin....would Spike60 be a go-to guy for older OE stuff for like the 801, 80 & 90....or just newer stuff?

Nice looking saw...tell me about it....how is it different from the 535 plastic top? What size engine? I gotta thing for those old silver top Jonny's.:D

I am a Stihl guy... I do not know much about these saws. The 'silver' is just plastic on top. I think the silver ones were made for one or two years around 2001 at the end of the run. It runs pretty strong though, and pull the 3/8 just fine for a 50ish cc saw.

I goggled it and found this IPL for it online:

About all I found. Figured someone here would know more about it.
