What do you all know about a jonsered 520sp as far as qulaity and performance, also do any parts interchange between a 2050 turbo and 2051 turbo thanks
ADLM
If you need some parts I've got a 520 sp sitting in a box In my garage. Decent piston and cylinder. Just needs a roughing up and a new ring. I think the compression was sitting at 140.

Very few of the parts will interchange between the 520sp and 2050/2051. I have had some guys on this site go so far as to say that the 520sp family of saws almost killed Jonsered. I have a 510sp witch I think is pretty similar. It is definitely not a pro saw but for occasional homeowner use it would be OK. I do have a soft spot for it because it always starts and it was my first saw. The one that started it all.

No I mean parts interchange between the 2050 turbo and the 2051 turbo, I don't know much about jonsered saws to be honest

Thanks sir! Put in an offer, I'll see if I get it.

I see that he has changed the add.....earlier he wanted BIN $60 and free shipping or make offer....now it's $50. but $12.80 shipping or make offer??? I guess he didn't bite on your offer. If he's worrying about $2.80 probably be a hard guy to haggle with........never understood why non-hagglers put up a "Make Offer" in their BIN add then not be open to haggling....or at least make a counter offer back to you...

Yeah didn't get it. He didn't like the offer.oh well.

Nothing like your first saw in a marque....unless it was a bastard...lol.

For J'red, mine was the 80 that I still use some 35+yrs later.

Kevin

Yep. It is definitely a bastard! Lol! I still drag it out once in a while for light trimming. But I have a lot better saws for any serious cutting.:chainsaw:

I don't know either....I even asked them that and in most cases they act like the 'Make Offer' was an accident, or they don't wanna bother with it and removed it right after I said something.

Must be a generic picture. The part description says it's a 42mm piston; JONSERED 621 PISTON 42MM, REPLACES PART # 504411600,

But, but, but.... the 621 has a 45MM bore not 42 either.......but I also see they have AM pistons for both the 49 and 52......they say the single ring one for the 49 will also work in the 52.....but don't mention it can work the other way around.....which it will. Don't know who mfg is......I suspect VEC from India....

A friend contacted the seller and they did say they came out of India. Reviews on them are scarce.

If they are VEC pistons, are they any good?

I did a 49SP build thread on here when they first came out with that AM VEC piston. The fit and finish were excellent...real nice....however the distance between the wristpin bosses was way excessive. This maintains your conrod being centered between the counter weights on the crank. On this one the conrod could rub on both counterweights. I had to grind like, 0.020" off either side of the bosses and use the wristpin bearing and thrustwashers from a 52/52E. Ended up with a running clearance of about 0.012", whereas if I had just put it together the running clearance was like 0.280" or something.....the accurate #'s are in that thread if someone has an interest. The saw has run fine with no complaints so far......

Yup, you are correct. Good catch. I bought one of those AM 49sp pistons and just got done looking it over really well. I couldn't find a single cast mark anywhere that may give a clue as to who makes it.
But as you and Tim stated, they probably are VEC.

Thanks for the info.

Yep...well....I considered it unusable as shipped.....and contacted NorthWoods Saw advising them that the piston was beautiful except the wristpin issue.....and that they should convey that info to the mfgers.........they were quite indifferent.......but the piston was beautiful in all respects and measurements except that......
