After last evenings posts, I got to ruminating about the full-wrap handle I wanted on the MS-460. I called Stihl as my dealer suggested and they told me that I could get it that way even though I was on the wrong coast. The downside of the situation is that there are no MS-460s available to us here on the East Coast for about 30 days. She stated that I would have my saw by the end of January. That is really o.k. with me as I have plenty of saws to use and absence makes the heart grow fonder or something like that. Anyway, I will need to wait. I immediately called my dealer with the news and told him to get on the horn and get the saw ordered with a full wraparound handlebar like I wanted in the first place. Several of my other saws have that configuration and I am kinda used to it. I cut from either side of the tree depending on the terrain etc.

Is there a reason why you're starting a new thread for this instead of simply posting on the existing thread/ conversation? Unless somebody is reading here 2-3 times per day, they will have a heck of a time trying to look up other threads and follow your conversation.

I assume you are just new to online discussion forums. Generally new threads are for new topics, not to simply post today's updates to yesterday's thread.

skwerl,

Certainly not trying to confuse anyone, but there may be someone out there who, like me, is trying to get an MS-460 who lives in my region. My point is, they apparently are not available to us and will not be for approximately 30 days. Much apologies for tying up space. Just passing on what I thought to be most useful information coming from Stihl East Coast. Other than than, just friendly banter.

Thanks for the welcome. While it is true that I am new to this forum, I am certainly not new to forums in generally having conversed for years on cordite.com and several forums on African hunting. I am no stranger to chainsaws either. I have run chainsaws both privately and commercially for more than 35 years. I passed-on what I believed to be valid and valuable information about the immediate availability of one of Stihls heavy hitters on the site. Had I not just ordered one, it might not be as frustrating. I have learned that Katrina's effect was much wider felt than previously understood. At least that is the excuse I have been given for the poor availability of Stihls pro saws at the moment.

458,

Squirrel just wanted to help you post in the relevant thread. Lots of times people try to revisit threads they're interested in and if you post new ones its hard to follow from whence you left off.

Welcome good buddy!

Thank you for the suggestion. No offense was taken. I just call 'um as I see 'um. I was frustrated that I wasn't getting anywhere with the full wrap-around handlebar and was told that they weren't available on the East Coast. Couldn't really buy that so I called Stihl myself and got confirmation on getting the full wrap, but no delivery until end of January for saw. Again, not a big deal, cause I don't need it now, but others from this "neck of the woods" may need one asap. I was merely posting so that someone else could avoid disappointment and shop around because I guess none are coming from Stihl for about 30 days. At least not here on the right hand coast.

Everyone is just trying to say keep it posted in the original thread. Makes it easier for all too follow and what was stated in the past post. otherwise someone could be wondering what are they talking about in the middle of a new thread, without knowing what was stated in the earlier thread:dizzy: s.

Might have something to do with the price stihl saws are going for on Ebay . Those guys are paying damn near new prices for older used saws

used ones can be bought on ebay. not always listed but sellers of handles sometimes have unlisted ones. bought a good used 460 full wrap for 60 bucks.

good day 1953greg

Went over to my dealer today (Sat. morning) and stated that I talked to Stihl and I will get the wrap handle. I need the part # for the dual port exhaust cover. He couldn't find it in his parts catalogue. Thanks!

Thank you trussman. I will call the dealer on Monday. He asked me to find out the # as his part list doesn't show the number. I told him about the part and he wasn't aware of it. I told him I found out about the part on this forum. Thanks again. People tell me that is should replace with that part. Must I re-jet the carb after the installation or just re-tune?

cut4fun,

You're right. I was just in such a hurry to get all of the information together I forgot to look back on my own post. Must have been a senior moment. Anyway, thanks for calling my attention to me being redundant. I just have never had this much hassle getting a saw. I thought I could just go get the MS-460 and be done with it. NO! First, I was told I couldn't get the wrap handle. Never had a problem getting wrap handles on my saws before. Then I learned about the ported muffler and my dealer said he couldn't find the part number and never had ordered one before, then I was told by Stihl that they didn't have any MS-460s available, etc., etc., etc. Guess I got a bit rattled and didn't pay attention to the details of what I was asking. Sorry. Hopefully now I will get the dang saw the way I wanted it in the first place. My dealer promised me he would get exactly what I wanted as soon as they are again available. I have never had this problem with any saw I purchased before. I am confused.

More and more I find myself questioning the value of this system whereby you must go through a dealer to purchase Stihl parts or accessories or whatever.

The dealer told you to call Stihl? Seems to me that he should be making that call.

In another thread we've got a guy saying that "my Stihl dealer" doesn't order until he's got enough orders to receive free shipping.

Then we've got my guy who calls me two months after I ordered and received my 460 telling me he's got my fax and he's about to place the order and I'm like "What?" and he asks "Didn't you order a saw?" and I'm like "Yeah, two months ago." and he asks "Do you still want it?" and I'm like "You ordered it and I got it a couple of months ago.". Got home and checked my receipt and sure enough it had been exactly two months.

Some of these guys are lost.

In any case, that 460 will certainly be worth the wait. It's worth both the wait and the weight.

There must be a reason that folks here recommend part no. 1128 140 0801. Just so you know, though, there is yet one more muffler variation for the 460 and that is part no. 1128 140 0616. No baffling inside and the side port is a good deal bigger. Picked one up for about $76. Maybe that's why we don't hear more about it.

We have plenty of new 460s around here. Maybe you might find one at a different store near you?
